Is it possible to find adoption records for a child born 1909?

The child was born in Docking Workhouse 1909. The Mother discharged herself soon after the birth. She was recorded to be living in New Hunstanton. No Father was given on the Birth Certificate.

What I believe is that Levi Able and Levi Owens are one and the same.

He (Levi) is Able in the 1841 census, but when he married Hannah Rich he chose to use the name Owens.

Its a hunch I know, but until I can find more information I will go with this idea.

Ok! Don't tell me...I'm a dummy :-[.

No I won't be sending for a certificate. I got carried away about the possible solution and completely forgot about the date.

Hi Yokel and Arranroots

Yokel I clicked through to the link you gave me and I now understand the HO reference. As Arranroots and you pointed out Levi is shown in Langley, but which Levi?

Levi son of Robert Able and Hannah Owens was born April 3rd 1819, Baptised May 9th 1819. This info appears in the Sisland Register.

I am wondering what Levi's surname was at birth was it Able or Owens? Owens is the name he registered himself as when he married Hannah Rich.

This is all too intriguing so I have decided to go ahead and send of for a birth certificate based on the above info. I will post the result when the certificate arrives

Thank both for taking me to this point.

Thank you for the Able family news.

The dates seem to fit for both Levi & Hannah so this has left me wondering are Levi & Hannah Owens and Levi & Hannah Able the same people?

Levi, Levy Owen(s) & Hannah appear on the 1851-61 & 81 census for Claxton. Could you please check for me if this family appear on the 1841 Claxton census.

Could you also please explain what the  reference HO  represents and the source.

Thank you

Hi Arranroots

No, To finding the family in 1841.

I am also not certain how to trace backwards from 1819 or 1823. Another entry in Sisland records refers to a Mary Burgess who is married a Michael Owen(s). The record shows they had four children, one was a Hannah born 1794, but that seems a date too early for the Levi Hannah marriage.

Thanks

How to verify these records from the Sisland Church Registers?

I have a marriage certificate that shows Levi Owens born 1819 married Hannah Rich in Langley 1845. Hannah’s Father John Rich is a witness for the bride, there is no witness for the groom.

Levi Owens appears to have taken his Mother’s name rather than his Fathers. The Sisland records state that Levi was born the son of Robert Able and Hannah Owens May 9th 1819. Robert and Hannah married in 1823.

It seems unusual for Levi to have taken his Mother’s name rather than his Father’s name, or is it? Is there anyway to verify these records?

Hi Yokel

What a gem you are, thanks for that. What puzzles me is how is it that I didn't find Levi myself :)?

Just have to look closer I guess.
