Leicestershire / Re: Johnson, Ibstock

Oh, thank you!
That seems to clinch it then, as I had those two children on the tree.
I didn't know you could search for free and get the maiden names. You learn something new every day.

Leicestershire / Johnson, Ibstock
« on: Thursday 13 December 18 04:44 GMT (UK)  »
There seems to be a large family of Johnsons in Ibstock. It doesn't help narrow down the right one.
I have a William Johnson who married a Lydia. There are two possibilities in May 1825 - one to Lydia Hall and one to Lydia Pratt. How do I know which is the correct one? William Johnson's wife put her birthplace as Ibstock in one census and Hugglescote in another. Was either Lydia Hall or Lydia Pratt born in either of those places?
Edit: Perhaps they are one and the same person but with transcription errors? One date of marriage is 13 May and the other 30 May....

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: Martha Harris

Ann baptised 1788
Sarah baptised 1790
The rest, apart from Charlotte and Susan, were boys.
The parents appear to have been married in 1780 and the baptisms occur every year or two after that.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Martha Harris
« on: Saturday 01 December 18 23:17 GMT (UK)  »
My ggg-gf's wife, Martha Harris, states in all census returns that she was born in Bishop's Castle, and her age is consistent with a date of about 1790-1791. However, I've been unable to find her baptism. On one census she had a nephew, John Rhees visiting. I found his baptism in 1829 son of John Rhees and Susan. Then I found the marriage of John Rhees to Susan Harris in Bishop's Castle. So far, so good.
I then found Susan's baptism in Bishop's Castle, daughter of Edward and Mary Harris. I found 7 siblings all baptised from 1788 to 1801 in Bishop's Castle. I found a further five Harris children baptised in Lydham between 1781 and 1786. Two of the children baptised in Bishop's Castle were called Charlotte and Thomas. A Charlotte and Thomas Harris were witnesses at Martha's marriage.
Still no Martha, even after browsing the registers for any mis-transcriptions! The closest I found was a Mary, baptised in Lydham in 1781, 10 years older than Martha claims to have been. All very frustrating. Any suggestions?

The Common Room / Re: Where's Richard (Philpot)?
« on: Saturday 01 December 18 07:14 GMT (UK)  »
I'm  afraid I don't have any info on your Richard. I have a later Philpot, Charles born between 1819and 1825 presumably in Shropshire. He was a grocer in Shrewsbury in 1850s/60s and a tobbaconist in Worcester in 1870s. His wife (Charlotte Powell) was recorded as a widow in 1891. Interestingly  there appears to have been another Charles Philpot, grocer, who died in Pontesford in 1895 just to confuse matters. Pontesford is near Pontesbury. Perhaps your Richard is from there?

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: Wilding

I have Mary Anne Wilding linked to my tree. She married Richard Bromley in 1833 in Church Pulverbatch. They had 8 children that I know of, one of whom, Penry, had a daughter who married John Powell in 1891 (no idea if his family is related to Mary Powell).
I have no info on Mary Anne's father Edward, sadly.
