Ross & Cromarty / Re: Where is this place in Urquhart & Logie Wester or close by?

Hi & that's fine northscot79. When I next visit Scotland I'll take a good look at some of these Fraser haunts. Who knows I might catch up with you over a beer.
Cheers,
Col  :)

Hi & thanks for your replies.

I think I may have initialy confused a Newton down Edinburgh way rather than the Ferintosh location, Forfarian. In any case it was too far, the wrong one to fit my ancestors.

Thanks for the additional info northscot79. 34 miles back then is no inconsiderable distance either.
Cheers,
Col  :)

Hi & thanks bbart & Treetotal.
I think you're right Treetotal with the Balreillan appearing on your linked map as either a locality or estate perhaps.
Will go ahead & investigate the place further now.
Many thanks.
Cheers,
Col  :)

Hi, hoping someone's again able to come to my aid re: the attached birth cert. snippet featuring a placename that looks like Ballrelan. It isn't, of course, having checked variations in ScotlandsPlaces.
This one is a toughie but I'm confident someone out there will rise to the occasion. Thanks.
Cheers,
Col  :)

Wow, that is impressive Skoosh. I'll continue to dig but think I've reached my limits (temporarily I hope) with my patrynymics.
Cheers,
Col  :)

I wish they'd written it all down somewhere. I'm finding it harder & harder to locate records in the 1700s. When I do find them it's often hard to locate births even when marriage certs & children can be found. Death certs also seem to be difficult.
Oh well, keeps me on my toes. All the best.
Cheers,
Col  :)

Hi & thanks Skoosh. Didn't know that about aliases but it makes sense as you point out with all the Frasers around that area.
With the non capitalised "miller" of the record that could have been his occupation.
I will do a name search on Rootschat for Miller. I've done one previously for Fraser.
Cheers,
Col  :)
