Well, there are a few Henry Jameses of suitable ages around with a William as father - but not an excise officer, and not in Scotland, nor born in Scotland. The Dundee one is prob not him - he is still in Scotland when Henry marries in Hunts. Also one b. 1836 in Hunts/Northants - gypsy - but still unmarried in 1881, so not HIM either!

This is highly likely; I was just being ever-hopeful! And excise officers tended to travel about - also IF dear Henry is being truthful about his origins. Maybe shall gird my laptop, and search for every Henry/Harry James born 1830-2/1835-7, and follow them up to the 1881 when I have him 'nailed'!!

Cant see my message so am resending.
Looking for a baptism of Joseph Moore died aged 83 1832 Aldwinckle - lived there most of his life, if not all. No sign of baptism in Aldwinckle. May have been a Baptist. Don't have his parents either. Death cert would give a birthdate of 1749. Can anyone out there help please?

Quite agree - and thanks for trying!! Have often thought he might have had an overactive imagination. He told his family the same story re Scotland birth! Could well have been out of wedlock too.

Huntingdonshire / Joseph Moore, Edward Dudley, Eleanor Lockington

 :)
Am looking for the baptism/parentage of JOSEPH MOORE, born 1749 - he claims in Aldwinckle, but no trace of a baptism there. Died 1832 Aldwinckle, where he lived certainly for all his adult life. Married Sarah Dudley 9 Dec 1793 Aldwinckle All Saints. They were my 3rd greatgrandparents. He previously married Ann Weed 1 June 1775, Aldwinckle St Peters, and Martha Whitney 8 April 1782, Aldwinckle.  MAY have been a Baptist.

Also: have Sarah Dudley's parents, but none of her grandparents. Her parents were Edward Dudley 1735 Thrapston district Northants - 1807 Thrapston district, and Eleanor Lockington bp 10 March 1736/7 - 1783 Thrapston district. They married 15 March 1762 Thrapston district. Can find no trace of either of their parents. Would greatly appreciate any help with any of the above, as have been searching fruitlessly for quite some years! :) :)

Henry is later described as a house painter and decorator; when he died he was a plumber
