Wigtownshire / McWhirter/McAvoy/Clark researchers
« on: Tuesday 28 February 06 15:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,
I'm a newbie and think I've just found my first link to someone else's family tree, via Robina McAvoy, dtr of Agnes Clark my gt gt grand-Aunt.

Robina married David McWhirter in Liverpool in June 1869 and returned to Whithorn. I've found the 71 Census entry for them.
Any other family information would be welcome.
Thanks
Charles W Clark.

Thanks Boongie Pam,
These are a great help. I have already spotted several farms where ancestors were born or worked.

Wigtownshire / 19th Century parish and burgh maps of Whithorn

I have lots of information about my ancestors who lived in Whithorn (and may still), lots of street names and farm names.

Is there a county map or parish map of farms, streets etc that I could look at to place my ancestors exactly for the period 1841 - 1901?

Thanks

Charles

Wigtownshire / Irish Immigration to Whithorn.
« on: Monday 20 February 06 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
does anyone have any information about Irish immigration to Wigtownshire post 1798 rebellion in Ulster?

My ancestor Thomas Clark, born Ireland c 1773, settled in Whithorn and his children produced families of Clarks, Gibsons, McAvoys and McWhirters, mostly agricultural labourers or farm servants so any info regarding the working and living conditions of these people would be welcome.

I have the basic family tree data of births, marriages and deaths for about 75 people down to 1875 but nothing in the 20th Century.

Any live relatives out there?

Ireland / 1798 uprising and emigration to Scotland
« on: Monday 20 February 06 08:31 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor Thomas Clark seems to have settled in Whithorn and produced children from 1810 onwards so I wonder if he came over post -1798 rebellion.  Does anyone have any info on the extent and effect of the uprising especially on the Northern counties as the family soon settled into the Church of Scotland, were  probably Presbyterian, and possibly descendants of the Plantation Scots of 200 yrs earlier.

Any help would be appreciated

Charles William Clark
