Cumberland / Unearthed handwritten tree c1870 from CUMBRIA
« on: Friday 22 September 06 07:12 BST (UK)  »
I have come across a handwritten document written by Isabella THEXTON nee HUDSON c1870. She was born c1811. From my  own research, she lived in and around BEETHAM and lived I believe at Ashton House. Her family were land owners and she was well educated. Some of her tree and her spouse seem to go back to the 18th century. She has a link to the Chaplin to the Duke of Wellington.
IF you have a tree includes the surnames:
THEXTON, HUDSON, YEATS, CARTMEL, NICKEL, WHITTLE

Please drop me a line and I will try and fill in some gaps.

Carmarthenshire Completed Requests / Re: Cymbyr Farm, Talley, Carmarthenshire
« on: Wednesday 01 March 06 14:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Nigel

Just seen your post on Davies in Talley and wondered if my family were connected.

I have a William Davies born 1819 Llangeler married a Jane Davies born 1821 in Talley. They married in Dowlais in 1842. (got certificate)

Jane Davies was also nee Davies. Her father was called Thomas Davies, a butcher. born I would guess c1895.and probably in Talley. I have found in my research many butchers were also farmers.

I think that Jane was living in Gelligaer Parish as a servant at the time of her marriage. Ive tried to find both William and Jane in 1841 with no luck.

Not bad today!
Yea please, any info may help to sort this lot out. With such a common surname in Wales it has been hard work.

Herefordshire Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1841 census please in Cusop Herefordshire
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi EBN

Thanks for the reply.
I cant find them in 1851 in Hereford either?
I do know she married my gg grandfather in Dec1858 in Bolton (Lancashire) who was a John KAY born 1836 in Bolton. (Kay was my mothers maiden name)
On Free BMD she is there as Mary BARROW? and on the 1871 census it is recorded she was born 1928 in Cusop so it is a high probability it is the same person. I have looked for them in the Lancashire census in 1851 with no luck so I have no idea where they went......
The connection with being a butchers daughter fits as my Kays were all farm stock and butchers in Turton and Bolton Lancs at that time. I know names were miss spelled on various census records as my own name was in 1871 for 10 years then put right.

Regards
Brian
