I have to accept that I will not be able to get further back.
Thank you very much for your help.
Kind regards,

Thank you for your reaction.
Do you think there are records to be found in Dunean parish which were not digitalised yet?
If not this is the end of the search.
Kind regards,
Michael

Family History Beginners Board / McLauglan or McLaughlin and McErlaine Further back
« on: Saturday 16 March 19 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am living in Holland and have Irish forebears, but I'm hitting the famous "brick wall"

This is what my grandmother wrote:
1."Alexander McLauchlan, “a agricultural Labourer”, married Sarah Mc Kane about 1820?? In Dunean, Ireland. About 1820 William, their son was born. They lived in Grange".

2."Thomas McArlailaine* or McErlaine, a farmer, married Rebecca McAllister about 1820 ?? in Ireland. About 1823 Sarah, their daughter was born"

Thomas and Rebecca’s daughter Sarah McErlain married William McLaughlin on 26 August 1840 in a Catholic Church in the Parish of Dunean in the County Antrim, Ireland. Father Denis MacGreevy married them. I have found the marriage document and could go from there up to my birth in 1949. So if anybody is interested I would gladly share my findings as from 1840.

Could anyone help me to find documents of the marriage Alexander and Sarah and birth of William?Could you help me to go further back on both the McLaughlin's and the McErlains?

Kind regards,

Michael Kreijns

Thank you for sending me the link of the churchbook as from 1834. I have found some very interesting documents, which will help me further.
Is there a way to go furher back than 1834?

From scraps of family information I have I know:
1. Thomas McArlailaine* or McErlaine, a farmer, married Rebecca McAllister about 1820 ?? in Ireland. About 1823?? Sarah, their daughter was born
2. Alexander McLauchlan, “a agricultural Labourer”, married Sarah Mc Kane about 1820?? In Dunean, Ireland. About 1820 William, their son was born.
3. William Mc Laughlin (or Mclaughlan) and Sarah McErlean were married and had children.
I hold a scrap of paper stating:
" Catholic Church (now our lady of Lourdes)
Parish of Dunane, Money Glass. Co. Antrim
Family of William McLaughlin (of the Grange) & Sarah McErlean (McLean) Drumraymon, both near Toome (or Toombridge) Co. Antrim, Ireland."

Can anyone help me with finding out more about my forebears, when and where they were born, lived and if there are documents to be found. All information and links to documents are more than welcome.

Thank you

Thank you Marienrose,
To my knowledge at this moment, this Bernard is not a member of the  family Darragh I am researching. Bernard Sr died in Ahoghill 1893, Bernard Jr went to Scotland and died in 1926 in Glasgow.
But I might find another lead an can place this Bernard in the family tree at some time. I will keep you posted.

Unbelieveable how fast you all respond. I hope I do not offend anybody by stating that you seem to react faster than God can read. Thank you!

Thank you wee Hugh for your reaction. It is good to learn that there are people out there that speak Dutch. Indeed Gemeente is the right word.
So I take it that a Townland Gloonan is a small part of the village Ahoghill.
All townlands together form the parish of Ahoghill. Is this correct?

Thank you aghadowey for the information you sent me. Very interesting books.
The Great Ahoghill Revival must have had its effect on the social structure of the town. With neighbours even falling out on religious disagreements.
I am very interested in these effects on the dailylife in Ahoghill and its townlands.
Any book or phd-study on Ahoghill known?
