Hello, yes he was born 1827 and died 1902.
His son David was born 1853 and died 1935.

I have googled ‘1st Company’ and there are lots of them.
I presume it is the 1st Stirlingshire Rifle Volunteers but I could be wrong.

Stirlingshire / Stirling - Volunteers of the 1st Company, now known as A Company
« on: Thursday 11 February 21 00:19 GMT (UK)  »
I have an ancestor, David Galashan who lived and died in Stirling in 1902.
He was ‘ an enthusiastic Volunteer....nearly 25 years a member of the 1st Company, now known as A Company.... he received the long service medal... as did his son, Sergeant David Galashan...it was rare for a father and son to both hold this medal’.
This was printed in a Stirling newspaper around the time of his burial in 1902.

Could anyone point me in the right direction where to search regarding volunteers and 1st Company?

Thank you

Hello Scotmum,
Thanks for your reply. Yes I use these 2 sites. I have been researching on and off for over 40 years.
I’m spending this current lockdown trying to suss out brickwalls, errors on websites etc. and to find out any new sources of information that I don’t know about.
Thanks again.

Hello Gaffy,
Thank you so much for your very informative and interesting reply. The maps and photos make it “real”.
It all makes sense to me now and next time I am in the town I will take a walk around the area.
It is about 2 years since I have been through the town.
Your reply is very much appreciated 😀

Down / Cahoon, stonemasons 1800s in Newtownards, Co. Down
« on: Sunday 17 January 21 22:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
There are several stonemasons called Cahoon.
I believe they are connected.

My ancestor is David Cahoon who had daughters Martha and Margaret in the 1830s.

Does anyone know anything about the Cahoon stonemason families?

Thank you.

Hello,
Some of my ancestors lived there.
Does anyone know where this part of the town was? Was it connected to a linen mill?

There is a Shuttlefield care home in the town nowadays. I presume it is in the same location.

Thanks
