Lancashire / Birth and Death advice needed!
« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 09:17 GMT (UK)  »
I need help please! The 1911 census tells me that my great grandparents had one child deceased by date of the census. I have no living relative to ask, and my nana (now gone) thought she had been an only child, how do i find out more?

Is there some way to narrow things down? I am looking for a child born between 1901 and 1911, I have no name, no gender, no place of birth, the parents lived in Orrell in 1901 and bolton from at least 1910. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers, Pippa

Wow! Thanks for the work on the pictures, they look amazing! I can tell you that one of the young women in  the photos was Theresa Cookson, a girlfriend of my grandfather and she died in 1940. She was born in 1917 and I am guessing that in these pics she is about seventeen years old. So, mid 1930's? Perhaps as late as 1939? Is that helpful? Again, many thanks!

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Bolton records office info
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 08:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. Thanks for your replies.  Thomas was a machinist in 1901, in Wigan. But at some point after that he lost all his fingers on right hand in an accident.  I am told that he had a sweet shop which he opened with compensation money, but I can't prove this yet! And now my idea was to look into directories for bolton and see if I can find him living somewhere around Grecian crescent? Is there any way of doing something like that? Cheers, pippa

Hello all!  Has anyone been to Bolton records office? Is there such a thing as a Kelly's directory type resource for Bolton? I am looking for information on Thomas Brown born c 1875, who I know was attending Victoria Wesleyan Methodist on Grecian Cresecent in 1910. I want to try and find out where he was living and what his job was. Any suggestions/advice would be wonderful. many thanks, Pippa

Hello all,  I am looking for the burial place of Leslie Thomas Lees, who died aged 73 in 1956 , death registered in Amounderness? I believe that this is Preston? Also his wife Lilian Maud Lees. I want to order the death certs for both but don't know where to find the reference numbers. Does anyone have any idea of local cemeteries? I think they lived in Walton le Dale. Any info would be grand! Pip x

World War One / Re: ASC 1st Anti-aircraft Workshops

Thanks for all those suggestions. I know that he is buried in St Marks churchyard about two minutes from where i live! I'm also after information on the unit.
I want to know more about the Anti-aircaft workshop but I can't turn up much on the internet.
I got my grandad's ww1 pension records from the internet. That was an interesting read! He always claimed that he had been shot in the leg while in France.
Turns out he was kicked while playing football and then pensioned out after only eight weeks training.
He'd be mortified if he knew what we all know now.
I'm wondering if there are people still alive who would be upset by what it's possible to findout online now? Thanks again, Pippa x
