I think the address might be North Ring Street Dublin. Try that anyway.

I am afraid there are no censuses surviving pre 1901 for Ireland. Your best option is to look via Parish records or Griffiths Valuations - although the latter might not be to helpful for Dublin. Other option is to get someone to visit Records Office in Dublin and search the BMD's for any info - they are from approx 1864 onwards.

If you can look on rootsweb worldconnect you may find that the Davis family of Cold Higham are part of my family tree. If you contact me on my e-mail address (*) I'll help if at all possible.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Slimings of Berwick
« on: Tuesday 28 March 06 16:29 BST (UK)  »
As you will have noticed John Slimings, the scot, was actually a mariner - census speak for a sailor/fisherman.

The one theme that becomes apparent later on is the middle name of Lee - well this originates with the above John's wife's maiden name she was called Elizabeth Lee and they were married in Mar qtr 1851. The records are included under Stockton as H'Pool did not start records for itself until 1859.

The other problem you may be able to help with is locating a Harry Lee (I believe) Slimings into the equation.

I have been informed that John Slim(m)ings died 22 May 1908 and an entry was put in the Northern Daily Mail, now Hartlepool Mail. He was buried I believe either in West View or the headland.

Have you got the fact that on Ancestry.co.uk they have misspelt the name on every census from 1851 thru to 1891. He is down under Sliminj and Slemin as well as Slimming. It might be a coincidence but the only other Sliming(s) in the census are in Berwick and come originally from Burntisland Scotland. The chap in question is a Henderson Slimings and as John had a middle name of Henderson then I assume they may be related.

Still I will plod on as they are part of my wife's family tree via marriage.

Can anyone help I am trying to locate parents and siblings of John Slimings born in Berwick circa 1830. He later moved to Hartlepool and under various mis-spelt names lived there until his death.
