Thank you, yes this is them, one daughter obviously there too. It was when I found Isabella's death details that I realized I had the wrong Isabella in my tree at one point. Also trying to find details of Florence's birth stalled me until I found out her mother was listed as Bella on the birth certificate. There's another Florence  May Hall who pops up too, but she lived in Wellington.

Thankyou, yes I have John Hall and Ellen Glen as potential parents for William, and Samuel and Elizabeth (nee Sayers) Sayers as parents for Isabella. Most of the information on those people comes from other peoples trees, which I always take with a grain of salt.  At one point I had the wrong Isbella in my tree. Which didn't help.

Oh thank you, that link is helpful, I've been going around in circles on Archives NZ. I was in Christchurch last year and went to the library, there SHOULD have been passenger lists there but when the librarian brought up the microfiche for me it only had coroner's reports. She thought the complete one might be on Wellington but I got lost trying to figure it out.
What I know about William is he was married in Strabane, Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He and Isabella also known as Bella had 6 children: Elizabeth born in 1884, Margaret Ellen 86, Alice Louise 89, William 92 and hubby's Grandmother Florence May in 95. From what I've seen he was a laborer. That's about all the information I have.

William died in 1940 and Isabella in March 1944. Her death certificate says she'd been in New Zealand 60 years. There's a death notice for her but I haven't found anything for him.  I'll have a look at some Australian passenger lists from that time, might find something.

Armed Forces / Re: Royal Engineers - Mapping of Ireland

I am interested in this as well. My Great Uncle Thomas Small was a surveyor with the Royal Engineers and I know from census record he was in Ireland in 1911. I am ever hopeful one day I might be able to find a map drawn by him.

New Zealand / passenger list
« on: Friday 07 February 25 01:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have been hoping to find the passenger list for my husband's great great grandparents coming to New Zealand. They were William (date of birth 1861) and Isabella Hall nee Sayers (date of birth 1861) they were married in Ireland on June 21st 1883. Then their daughter Elizabeth was born in Christchurch in June 1884. Nothing on Family Search fits. I wonder if asking for a look up at the national archives would help me, but I'm not actually sure what to ask for as the national archives seems to assume that what you are looking for will be on Family Search. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: druids and forresters lodges

I know it's been a while since this topic was started but would be interested to know if the original poster had any luck tracking down any records, I have discovered my husband's Great grandfather William Bailey was a Druid in Christchurch, and wondered if they might have a photo of him.

Thanks everyone, that makes sense. I've ordered his Grandad's birth certificate to confirm where his parents were born, hopefully adding credence to the hypothesis that these are the right people. I already know his mother's maiden name was Talliss, and have found records in Warrickshire that match, so it seems very likely.
