Hello from Australia. I have an old seamans chest I bought outside Sydney about 30 years ago, and inside the lid, penned in ink is:
S.Welsh, ss Pendragon, Liverpool, 1879. I have found out from trove.nla.gov.au, this person was Samuel Welsh 3rd mate, and this ship was captained by Samuel Morrish (after Master Charles Symons disaster). Still looking for more info when I came across your post. Also, there is a story about Captain Charles Symon on http://www.thesocialhistorian.com/cyclone-indian-ocean/
