Lancashire Lookup Offers / Re: OFFER - Lancashire Records Office
« on: Friday 08 March 24 21:18 GMT (UK)  »
Do the Lancashire Records extend to the records for England and Wales Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers (1567-1936) or are they just COE? I have someone that I'm looking up ancestors for and they are Presbyterians. I've looked in the register I did locate and found James Birch (bapt. 11 Aug 1720) to Joseph Birch of Gorton Lane, Manchester. I've looked through every entry and the majority are Baptisms and only a handful of deaths. The rest are recipes for aches and pains, Asthma and other ailments and liquor. I'm looking for marriage and death records that were not included in the register. I'm trying to figure out who else is in Joseph and James Birch's family. Thank you for any suggestions!

Cavan / Thomas Burch/Birch b 1746 Co. Cavan d. 17 Apr 1844

I'm looking for baptism information and/or any info on the parents of Thomas Burch/Birch. I have a death date of 17 Apr 1844 Preston, West Virginia, USA or Montgomery Co. Pennsylvania, USA but it's conflicting info. So what I'm looking for is his parents and any siblings. I know he married Mary Gray and Mary (Ann) Knox and his last son's name was James Wesley Burch/Birch. I have found information that his father may be James Wesley Burch/Birch b. 1720 Ulster d. Maryvale, Cork, and his mother may be Scarlet Elizabeth Friend b 29 Oct 1725 Ulster d. abt 1810 Maryvale, Cork.

Devon / John Libby of St Andrews Plymouth, Devon

I am trying to double-check St Andrew, Plymouth parish records for a baptism or birth date for John Libby. I have access to the Libby Family in America books 1602-1881 and 1881-1981. I have some dates, but it is unclear when he came to the colony of Maine in the US. it could have been as early as the 1620s. It also states that he was born in England in 1602, but a family member has him in our tree with the date of 11 Nov 1610 in St Andrews, Plymouth. I'm not sure if it is the same man or if the information is wrong. I have found many discrepancies. Our tree also shows him married to Mary Judith Miller 1608-1682 and son John Libby born 26 Apr 1636 in St Andrews, Plymouth. The book states that John Libby(1602-1682) was born in England but that John (1636-1720) was also. I am wondering how many more generations back are in the parish records. I can look for myself if someone can point me in the right direction.  Thanks!

Yes! My whole paternal line is Samways! I can trace them back to 1596 in Abbotsbury and Netherbury, Dorset. I have a tree on Ancestry and FamilySearch that my aunt and I have been working on.

I'm looking for any information on Francis Hobbins and his wife Elizabeth both possibly born in or near Walsall, Staffordshire before 1695. I am doing a Genealogy Angel good deed for someone who doesn't have access or experience to look up information on her ancestors. I have baptism dates for 3 children, and I don't know if there are any more than 3 as I cannot find any other information through FamilySearch or Ancestry.
William Hobbins bapt 11 Aug 1714 St Matthews Church, Walsall
John Hobbins bapt 16 Mar 1615 St Matthews Church, Walsall
Richard Hobbins bapt 15 Nov 1718 St Matthews Church, Walsall

I do know that William married and then died in Ebrington, Gloucestershire 21 Jun 1786.
Thank You's to anyone that can find a maiden name for Elizabeth, a marriage date for the couple or even a birth date and place for Francis Hobbins

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Robert Walker b. 21 Feb 1607 Manchester
« on: Tuesday 03 May 22 00:15 BST (UK)  »
I've looked for a marriage record for Robert and his wife Sarah ( poss: Leager) in Manchester before 1630 on the Manchester Cathedral records but didn't find anything listed. They departed Yarmouth on the Winthrop, April 8th, 1630 to Boston, MA. The ship's manifest says Walker, Robert/ Manchester / Boston Walker, Mrs Sarah. So I'm thinking that they were married before leaving Manchester. Is there another church local to Higher Ardwick that they might go to instead? I've checked the entire book for Walkers and have only found a few listings but not for them.

I have recently found information from the Long Island Genealogy website that my Sammis (maiden name) was changed as of the 1600s from the Samways surname in Dorset. My aunt traced our lineage back to John Sammis 1643 Windsor CT - 18 Jan 1693 Huntington NY, USA. His father was Richard Samwayes b. 1 Nov 1615 and married Esther Horsford or Hosford in 1642 in Windsor, CT. His parents are John Samways and Temperance Denslow who were married in Netherbury, Dorset on 6 Feb 1609. I have notes that the Samwayes (Multiple spellings) are a one county family name as of my info from 2010. I trust that this information is true as it's posted on an Early American Genealogy website. I'm very interested in the ancestry of my family and have spent years researching daily. I have found a lot of information through searches, Ancestry.com, and FamilySearch.org and I'm looking for more. I have gone through the entire Baptism, Marriage and Burials books and have printed a lot of pages of information to use in my research. I am looking to find out John Samwayes ancestors.
