Thank you hiyamarra, GrahamSimons and SWar, you have given me plenty to think about.

I'm not sure if it is just me, but seeing it in colour has helped me to see the family resemblance, I am sure that several of those young women are sisters. I don't know the exact connection, but I think it is likely to be a family group with a few extras.

Thank you everyone for helping with this

PaulaToo, that is brilliant, thank you so much. You have even managed to make the 'strange woman' look a little less wild. Your hard work is very much appreciated.

Thank you all for your advice and thoughts. Pels was right that the men in this picture are working class. I think the one nearest the left rear wheel was one of my grandmother's older brothers. If so he came from Northampton and worked in a shoe factory (they all worked in the shoe trade). A day out seems to make sense, we had a racecourse in Northampton, but racing ceased in about 1904 so I think that is a bit early for this picture, Towcester Racecourse is not far away but racing didn't start there until 1928 so that is too late. There must have been lots of possibilities for a lad's day out.

Wow Jim, you have really sharp eyes. I really couldn't see anything, but having looked again I can tell that there must be something either side of the knot of the tie holding the collar down.

Lydart, thank you for asking that, I thought it was just me that had missed something! I looked but I couldn't see a tiepin.

Thank you Jim.

Thank you Treetotal and japeflakes, it is the man top left that I am interested in. If it is who I think it is, he was wounded in WW1 (1918). How old would you say the man top left was? William Buswell (the person I think it was) was born in 1881 so he would have been close to 40 in this photo, does that look about right?
