Kent / Re: Mancktelow family Kent

I have searched our family tree and found several Elizabeths - born at Yalding, Pembury and Wadhurst, Sussex.  One of them might have married a Thomas Lilliott but I don't have a record of it.  I haven't been able to find a Jim or James but I guess there is a connection somewhere.

Best wishes

I can't find any mention of a Roy Gaynor on the huge family tree produced by my sister & brother-in-law, but if you can give me some dates and additional information about grandparents etc., I will pass it on to them and they may be able to help.

Hi

It is quite possible.   Can you tell me his name and I will look through the records - mostly compiled by my sister who is now living abroad.

That is really encouraging.  I'm still looking for my German relatives and have just sent details to a German Genealogy publication so I'm hoping for some results.

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Meers - Wisbech

Hi

Yes I do have it thank you.  Some of it has been difficult to decipher but it just says merchant as far as I can see,  and only mentions 2 sons.

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Meers - Wisbech

Isaac Meers was a merchant in Wisbech, born aboout 1737 and died 1818.  Can anyone tell me what sort of merchant he was?  He lived in Timber Market.  I would also love to find out the names of his parents, but haven't been able to trace his birth record in Wisbech St Peters.  I think he may have had a brother Ezra.  He married Elizabeth Reddish in 1775 but I wonder if he was previously married as I have found a daughter Lucy who was married in 1800.  Any information about the family would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone
Well Babs and I have exchanged lots of information and it is so interesting to see the similarities in our families.  The artistic and creative side of the family obviously came from the Wirtz genes.  Both Babs's sister and mine hand make greeting cards and we both have houses full of books.  She knows of other family rumours linking gt.gt. grandfather to the German Hospital at Dalston and also some connection with Eugenie - Napoleon's wife?  I had already found a Jean Wirtz who fought with Napoleon and was awarded the St Helena medal so may try to find more out about this from France.  Any ideas where to start?

Babs

Yes I am descended from Minnie Elizabeth (born 1874).  She married George Daniel Meers  and had 5 children, one of them was my mother.

We have traced our family back to a William Makeloe c.1600 in Pembury, Kent, but does anyone know where the name came from originally?  Someone told us it could be Huegenot but wasn't sure.  Hope someone can help.
