Somerset / Re: MINCHINTON family
« on: Tuesday 24 March 09 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have various Minchintons in the area - sometimes in Somerset sometimes in Dorset (border area?). Anyone else interested in this family?

I might be. Trying to track back from a MARK Minchinton 1821 son of William Minchinton 1779-1836 born in Milbourne Port. William married twice, second wife Elizabeth COOK on 19 May 1822. (1788-1851) First wife Martha? Also had William 1818 and Charlotte 1820 I believe.

Hi Leonie,

Have you been back to Rookwood yet? Still waiting patiently for the John Javez Salier grave pics if it is at all possible!
Anyone else able to make a visit there at all?

Thanks,
Sue

Well, I have a THOMAS WILSON Eley b. 12/07/1871 in Hilton and a brother SAMUEL Eley b.1867 in Hilton.
Father THOMAS Eley born in Littleover 1851, married 1866 to Ann Collier. There is also step-daughter Betsy J. Collier in the census. I can't seem to get any further back from Thomas, so if you can help me there I'd be enormously grateful!

Does anyone have any info on any ELEY family member from these towns in late 1800's?

Oh? So sorry about that...My parents said they thought he was Church of England, and my tree says his father was a Congregational Minister in London. Does that make him Independent?
I understand it's a big place out there!
I've been to the Brookwood Cemetery a few times, that's pretty big too, as it was used for London.
I eventually found what I was looking for! My parents went when I was heavily pregnant, so I couldn't go, but they found the graves pretty quickly on their first (and only) visit.
Hope you get a chance next time, I truly appreciate your efforts!

I'd also say it's Chambers, looks like London, Hereford Chambers, Accountant to me....(I've been scouring Censuses for the past few weeks, took me ages to interpret "Post Messenger" I thought it was Innkeeper for a while..
good luck!

Hi!
Just seen your message, and wondered if you haven't been yet, could you possibly add another one to your list at Rookwood please?? In the Anglican section, quite near to the office, you will find a large plot with a very large monument to JOHN JABEZ SALIER. My parents went when visiting from England, but can't read the inscriptions from the photos they took! There are some other names at the bottom apparently. There is also another Salier stone for John Lang Salier too. There may be more.
I would be extremely grateful if you would have time to get these details!
Here's hoping, Sue
