This fascinating - I find real articles like these directories
bring the family history to life.  The article in the Mansfield
Ohio News from 1922 sounds really interesting and it
is the correct family link

This is really useful.  Thank you again.

I shall be talking to family shortly and will try and find
out if Jewel did live in Allen Park Wayne Co, if so that
I think her death certificate could be very useful and I might
try and get it.

Puck.

Thank you all for your help.  I have been looking at the
sites you quote.

The family I am checking is Burrell and Jewell Frazier
Burrell died in 1963 and I believe Jewell died 1973.

Jewell Frazier was born in England in the Forest of Dean
in 1881.  Her maiden name was Julia ElizabethVaughan.

Julia/Jewell married Burrell Frazier in 1901? in Blackford
indiana and he was a Rail Road Yard Master.  They had
a son John.

I have them in the 1920 USA Census but have lost track
since.  I have found an entry on Ancestry giving the
date of Burrell's death.

I wondered if the Death Certificate could tell me more about
Jewell Vaughn, residence. etc. I have also lost track of Jewell's Mother Julia (Hewlett) Vaughn.  Her husband William Henry Vaughan returned to UK in 1890 with some of the Children.

The name is spelt Vaughan/Vaughn.

I await to see if you can help

Thank you for your help.

I am looking for a time span of 1879 - jun 1963.

Michigan is the last known place of abode.

I have looked on the Michigan site and found it
quite difficult to understand how to obtain and pay
for the certificate.  I am reluctant to use credit card
details on line.  I have a friend in the USA who will
obtain the certificate for me.

But the questions is will it be worth it?

Thank you

I wonder if somebody can help.

Does a USA Death Certificate contain more information
than a UK one.  Would I get any Family History from
such a certificate or is it cause of death and place only.

I believe the cost to be 26 dollars

Is it worth sending for one?

Thank you

Tipperary / Re: Located Ryans' (g-grandparents') townland--any relatives?

Hello Quiggs

The only information I have and this is taken from the marriage certificate of Patrick Ryan to Lizzie Hooper in 1882 was that
Patrick Ryan's Father was James and he was a shoemaker.

I have spent many a long hour at the National Archives looking through Royal Marine Artillery Attestation papers in the hope that I could find Battery Sgt Major Patrick Ryan but to no avail.

Many thanks for your interest

St. Thomas Mount is in Chennai Madras India

It is deemed to be a holy place, the British came in the 17th Century,
I believe the Royal Artillery had a station there for many years.
Could there have been a military marriage?

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Lost Overboard

Thank you for the thought that he might be registered on a family grave.  We have been to the National Library of Wales and found his parents, but we have not looked for the grave at Crickhowell, that could be quite important.  Also for the information regarding the register of the death.

It is a family rumour in my Husband's tree that Evan Lloyd was lost at sea.

Evan Lloyd was born in 1847 in Crickhowell Breconshire.
Parents were Henry Lloyd and Joan Phillips.  There was an older brother Thomas.

Through Find My Past and looking up "Deaths at Sea" at the National Archives I have found an entry No 1730 on Board of Trade Fiche

Mr. Lloyd 1st Class Passenger age 24. - lost overboard. date
31st January 1870.  The ship was the Norfolk 11920 and berthed
at Poplar 26th August 1870

I have looked up the Norfolk in Lloyd's Register and found details of the ship tonnage etc.  and the ship did sail London - Japan and return.

I have looked in the Board of Trade papers at Kew, but not been able to find the log book for the Norfolk, I am told the collection has been split between Canada and Greenwich.  The Caird museum at Greenwich is currently closed for refurbishment.

The dates for this Mr. Lloyd are correct for my Mr. Lloyd.

Would the Ship's Captain have to register the death? and would it have been registered in Poplar and when would I find these regards

Any help would be appreciated.

Ireland / Re: Irish Occupations
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 19:08 GMT (UK)  »
How about Patrick Ryan born in Ireland, shown in the 1881 Census as a Gunner in the Royal Marine Artillery - but his Father's occupation was a Shoemaker - and i still don't know where they came from.
