George, Deer Park opened well before 1958.  I'll post a query on the Lost Dunbar Facebook page and see if anyone can help.  Gillian

George, it's hard to identify which burial ground is in the photo - both the Dunbar Parish Church graveyard and the Deer Park Cemetery have red sandstone walls.  From the number of newer headstones, I'd hazard a guess it's Deer Park.  If I get a chance when I get to Dunbar from Oz in the next few weeks, I'll have a bit of a look around.

George, if your daughter can post a request on Lost Dunbar, someone on that Facebook page will direct you to photos of the Beltonford maltings or even post the photos on again for you.  Gillian

George there is a Facebook page called Lost Dunbar.  If you posted your photo of the headstone on there, I'm sure some of the locals would be able to tell you if it's Deer Park.  I'm in Australia and can't honestly say I'd recognise the cemetery from the photo.  I'm from Dunbar originally but it's a long time since I was at the cemetery.  Good luck.  Gillian

Stephanie, I'm a regular subscriber to Scotland's People but haven't had any luck getting back any further.  I know I'm in dodgy times in the early 1700s.  My family did have a tree going back to the 1300s via the Humes but my sister decided to throw it out as she wasn't interested in family history!!  I'm now thinking I'll need to find a good genealogist to dig a bit further.  All I can recall is my father saying we came down through the "Bloody Humes", referring to a battle at some stage.  I'll be back in Edinburgh (from Oz) in June so might seek help then.  Gillian

There are two cemeteries in Dunbar - one surrounding Dunbar Parish Church and the other about a mile south east of the town called Deer Park Cemetery.  Not sure if you can search on that but worth a try.  It's more likely to be Deer Park unless the family had a big plot at the Parish Church.  Gillian

Brick wall in early 1700s.  I have Robert Hume married to Elizabeth Simpson.  She was baptised at Innerwick 1733/34.  Robert had a brother George, also married to another Simpson - Agnes.  Cannot find any record of baptism of either Robert or George.  Anyone researching this family with more information please?  I have the children of Robert and Elizabeth but can't get any further back with the Hume side.  Have also tried Oldhamstocks records with no luck either.

Hi, I'm a former resident of Dunbar.  The address could be Sea Cliff which is/was the name of a house in Dunbar.  If you are able to access a map of Dunbar, it was in East Links close to Golf Road.  Quite a large house on a very steep slope - in my childhood in Dunbar, the lady who lived there had goats to keep the slope mowed.  Sorry but I can't recollect her name.  There is a Facebook page called Lost Dunbar - maybe if you posted something there, one of the locals may have better information.  They all have good memories.  Good luck.  Gillian
