I too am on the Tombs trail and would love to make contact with any previous posters in this thread. My John TOMBS was a convict sent to Australia in 1819, son of Giles Tombs and Ann Long of North Cerney, Gloucestershire. He was arrested for larceny of a dwelling house in Northleach, whilst living in Duntisbourne Rouse and working as a labourer.

@HHorton I have seen Horton reference as middle and first names in my ancestry so suspect there may be a link there to your clan.

Refreshing this enquiry after several years absence if any original or new contacts want to reach out.

Cheers

Sorry Sarah, missed this completely. Would have been using email address (removed) if that helps

Hi
I am a researcher from Australia chasing a former Collingwood footballer. We already have David Ryan 1885-1957 but he had a brother Mick Ryan who played 1 game in 1908. I am trying to resolve whether "Mick" is Dave's brother Michael Joseph George Ryan 1882-1957 or another brother Matthew Joseph Ryan 1878-1924. These boys were all born at Dookie, Victoria and are all sons of Matthew Ryan 1840-1921 and Catherine (Kitty) McNamara 1850-1898.

I am unable to access the book "Tipperary Green to Victoria Gold" so if anyone is able to do a lookup, that would be most appreciated. A family contact in Australia would also be a godsend to contact.

Many thanks
Peter

Hi Cathy and Carla
I am a descendant as well and have info on these 2. I have only just reconnected to Rootschat after a long absence and came across this query from a search on John Tombs. I am descended from their second son John Henry.

Catherine did arrive in Port Phillip on 9 Feb 1842 on the Martin Luther, departed 29 Oct 1841 from Cork Co. Ireland. She was one of 53 unmarried females, aged 21, a Protestant and house servant, who reads from Queens County Ireland. Sponsored by Mr J.B Were, there were 9 males and 2 females who died on the voyage.

Catherine was baptised on 17 Jun 1818 in Dublin to John Fletcher and Catherine Reilly.

Cheers
Peter
