Here are details of a Roper Union to be held in Bury St Edmunds
if you're interested.
David Roper's website http://www.roperld.com has a wealth of English and American Roper data.
Well worth a browse.
Regards,
Barry Roper

Roper Union V Attendees,

So far we have 23 Ropers, plus family members, signed up to attend.
See http://www.roperld.com/RoperSuffolkEnglandMeet2006.htm .

I have created a file that describes what I plan to put on the CD-ROM
that I will give to all who indicate before the meeting that they
will attend. It is at http://www.roperld.com/RoperUnionVCDROM.htm .
If you have ideas for other items to put on it, let me know.

Hi B.E.
My Roper line has been centred around Teversal near Sutton-in-Ashfield in the North of Nottinghamshire since 1726 , when Henry Roper married Ann Bishop there, but I've strong reasons for  believing that Henry was born in Cromford, Derbyshire.
I'm aware of other Roper lines in the South of Nottinghamshire but haven't yet uncovered any links to my line.

Are you aware of an excellent website www.wirksworth.org.uk  ?
It has lot of data on Roper families e.g.
 http://www.wirksworth.org.uk/PR074.htm#1777

I haven't logged on for a long time, so I'm only just catching up with the post.
Thank you very much to Maid Marion for all the info' on the FitzRandolphs -- sterling stuff !
Sorry you haven't heard from me before now, but it's much appreciated.
Cheers,
Barry Roper

P.S. One early ancestor was Robert FitzRanulf, Lord of Alfreton and onetime Sheriff of Nottingham and Derby. But let bygones be bygones and no hard feelings to Maid Marion and Robin Hood !!

I've traced my line back to  Henry Roper, born 1702 in Cromford  -- and hit a brick wall !
He clearly lived there well before that upstart , Sir Richard Arkwright !
Would be interested to hear from anyone researching Derbyshire Ropers, especially in the Cromford/Matlock/Wirksworth region

Nottinghamshire / FitzRandolph

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is researching the FitzRandolph family in Nottinghamshire/ Derbyshire.
Edward FitzRandolph was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield in 1605 and emigrated to New England  approx 1630 -- an early pilgrim.  His G-Grandfather, Christopher FitzRandolph was a vicar and owned Langton Hall in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and I believe that his G-Uncle, John FitzRandolph owned land in Alfreton and Huthwaite.

I am particularly interested in tracing the FitzRandolph descendents,  after about 1650 who remained in  England.

Cheers,

Barry Roper
