Travelling People / Re: Irish traveller surnames

My grandmother Ivy Edith Dalton (born Crayford Kent; 1904 - 1988) always maintained that she was related to Romany gypsies including "Gypsy Rose Lea".  She had visions and premonitions as did my mother and me and my sisters.  Her mother was Louisa Crockford  and her grandmother was called Ellen Donavin (1846 - 1917).  I wondered if Ellen might be Irish and a Romany?

Devon / General Caunter died intestate 1930s?
« on: Tuesday 22 January 19 17:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my grandmother's Caunter family from Devon.  My mother told me she contested the estate of a very wealthy "General Caunter" possibly in the 1930s or 1940s(?) who had no will.  Another woman also contested and was successful.  My grandmother (Lily Beatrice Caunter 1896 -1976)did not succeed because of an illegitimate birth.  I would love to know more about this and would welcome any help establishing who this "General Caunter" was.

Devon / no cause of death on death certificate for John Caunter
« on: Sunday 18 February 18 17:05 GMT (UK)  »
There is no cause of death on the death certificate of my 3 times great grandfather John Caunter who died aged 23 in Ashburton, Devon on 8th November 1860 and was found by Sarah Tapper in North Street, Ashburton.  He was a tin/copper miner according to his marriage and death certificate but I don't know which mine(s) he worked in.  Does anyone know of any accidents in the mines near Ashburton that occurred around this time? Or any suggestions how I could find out more about how he died.  Thanks.
