Cork / Re: Henry Coughlan

I've had some great replies from heywood, dathai, ballydw, and Kiltglassan. Thank you so much for the information you sent me.
The information about. Henry's potential parents (Jeremiah and Bridget Coughlan ) was particularly of interest to me  because they both lived in Dominick St. Cork City.
Last year I discovered details of one of Henry's sisters and she also lived at 40 Dominick St. She was living there in 1884.  I'm now wondering why Jeremiah lived at number 54 🤔.
Dathai sent me information of a marriage for Jeremiah Coughlan and Bridget Cremeen and given the date and the area I thought this could be Henry's parents. Since then, I have done some more searching, and have found marriage details for Henry's other sister who married in Boston, Mass. She gave her parents as Jeremiah Coughlan and Bridget McCarthy. I have found no trace of this Bridget so far.
I'm now considering the fact that Jeremiah married twice, both times to a Bridget ?
Still trying to attach Henry to a Mother.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.  I now have some possibilities to go with.  I really don't know how I managed to miss this information previously.  Really good to have "fresh eyes" on the case.  👀👀

Cork / Henry Coughlan
« on: Tuesday 23 February 21 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find birth/baptism records for Henry Coughlan who was born in Cork approx 1850.
I am very fortunate to have possession of his family bible. However the bible does not give any information about himself. The recorded details start with his first marriage in 1877.
I have the dates and names of 2 spouses and a total of 8 children.
I also believe that he had 2 sisters, both born approx 1864 and 1866. (The difference of approx 16 years age difference from Henry's birth date might indicate his father married twice).
Henry died in 1921. Records of his marriages, children's births, and his death, show that he lived from 1877 until his death at Old Cork Road, Midleton.
I know from his marriage details that his father was Jeremiah Coughlan. Henry and his father's occupation were 'Coopers'. Presumably at a distillery (?).
I have no documents which would give Henry's mothers name.
I have found no results in Ancestory or FindMyPast. I have searched Nli for Midleton but cannot pin-point him. I am now widening my search at Nli, currently exploring Cork City. I have also searched Irish Genealogy without success. I feel I cannot give up now.
Henry was my Great Grandfather.  Any help in establishing his birth, baptism, or mothers name would be so appreciated. Very little info to start with......wish I could add more.

Cork / Re: LAWTON of Carrigtohill/Midleton

Many thanks to KG and Carrigfitz2021 for recent Lawton postings. Your info has enabled me for the first time to identify the structure of my Lawton family. I had numerous names but didn't know who was who.
Mary Lawton (Walsh/Cotter) and siblings were sister to my Gt Grandmother Kate Lawton.
Kate Lawton and her husband John Sheehan (shopkeepers from Main St Midleton) both died before they were 30 years old. John died in 1879, and Kate died in 1880. (Pthisis).  Their daughter Hanora also died in 1881, age 16 months. Mary Cotter was present at the deaths of Kate and her daughter. Their only other child Michael Sheehan would have been approx 3 years old at the time of his parents and sister deaths.  Michael was my Grandfather and I can only suspect that the Lawton family would have been involved in his upbringing but I can find no record of this.
After his birth record I have no information regarding Michael Sheehan until he enlisted in the army in 1889. I then have a record of his marriage in 1913. He married in 1913 at the Catholic Church in Midleton.
Thank you for the information you supplied.

Hallmark, thanks again for your reply.
I do already have the copies of the certificates you sent me.
I have everything except the marriage details for John Sheehan and Cath Lawton.
It would be amazing to find the information but I know that I will probably have to accept that for whatever reason these details are not available.

My thanks to Debra and Sinann for your replies.

Yes, I can understand now that this could refer to the child's marriage, and I do have the details of my Grandfather's marriage in 1913.

My Grandfather was Michael Sheehan, born Midleton in 1877. Died In Rostellan in 1934.

His sister was Hanora Sheehan, born Midleton in 1879. Died in Midleton in 1881.

I have Baptism records for both.

The marriage I am looking for is for the parents of Michael and Hanora.

Father : John Sheehan. Born approx 1850. He died in Midleton in 1879, age 29 years.

Mother : Cath'n (Katie) Lawton. Born approx 1852. She died in Midleton in
1880, age 28 years.

Having marriage details for John and Catherine would enable me hopefully to find a generation further back.

Any help would be really appreciated. With thanks

Hello Debra, I have the Birth and Baptism records of my Grandfather. Birth and Baptism give his parents names, occupation, and where living. It is their marriage which remains totally elusive.

Hallmark I  have tried what you suggested and have used many variations on the search criteria. Unfortunately still no luck. Such a shame that I cannot find a single record of GG Grandarents marriage.
