The Common Room / Re: William Asham of Hull mystery

I have the same feeling. In 1883 Askam seems to have been onboard a steamship named Glanworth. It was built in Kinghorn for a Australian company. I might have been his way out. As passanger or as part of the crew.

William married a Mary Warcup on the 5th July 1854 at Hornsea, Yorkshire. The marriage certificate shows that William's father was called John and he was a Mariner. Mary's father is shown as Isaac, a Miller.

Mary was the daughter of Isaac and Mary Warcup. She was Baptised at Skirlaugh on the 14th September 1834.

The National Probate Calendar shows that Mary Askam died on the 26 August 1912. She is described as a Widow living at 10 Atwick Road, Hornsea. Her estate was valued at £442 - 14 shillings - 7 pence.

A search of children of the marriage has drawn a blank.

Is it possiable to find out if Mary Askam was statet a widow because Askam was considered dead, or could they have been divorced and she remarried?

In the Faroes it is told that Askham went to Australia and became harbour master in Sidney, but I have not been able to find any trace of him there. Also I find this story to be unlikly because another  Faroese man was in charge of the wharfs in Sidney around the same time. But still Askham may have gone down under.

Hi.
My first post.
Peter Lindsay Henderson (1831-1881). You can read about him here: https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Peter_Lindsay_Henderson
Does anyone know where would be a good place to search for a photo of him?
