Wexford / Re: Bates family of Gorey Wexford

Thank you for the article sadbrewer. I does seem odd that it was published in 1916 and speaks of Bates as if he were still alive whereas we know him to have died in 1914.

Attached you will find, with the kind permission of the Transvaal Archives, two pages which are in the way of an application for employment Bates submitted to the authorities in 1904. He was unsuccessful and, later that year, headed back to England. I have emailed these and other pages to Gary West.

Regards

Rory

I am very happy to have stumbled upon this thread. I have recently bought the Boer War medal to Benjamin William Bates and have sourced quite a bit of info on him from the Transvaal Archives in SA. Could sadbrewer, if he reads this, please make contact as I would be interested in any photos and information on Bates.

Regards

Rory

Could someone please update or possibly lend a touch of colour and of black and white to the attached photo of a previous Mayor of Ladysmith?

This message is for Kered and anyone else who may be able to assist.

I have a Boer War medal to Edward Robert Wells, Market Master, Kimberley during the Siege in 1900. I would love any information/photos of him and his family to enable me to complete my biography on him. I know quite a bit about him already and am willing to make what I have on him available.

Regards

Rory
