On the 1881 census in the parish of Malvern, Upton on Severn district, Hanley Castle sub-district, 2920/110/6 a family named VARNISH are living in a dwelling or street named Britishworkman.

Is this correct?

Where is/was it and is it still there?

Daniel John BASELEY enlisted in the 38th Regiment in 1854 and was sent to the Crimea.

When hostilities ended in 1856 the regiment was sent to Ireland.

News of the India Mutiny in 1857 and the 38th Regiment is sent to India.

Daniel John BASELEY marries a Catherine during this period as a daughter Mary Ann BASELEY is born 6 Apr 1858 at Suncroft, Kildare in India.

Where is Suncroft, Kildare in India?

Daniel John BASELEY was awarded the India Mutiny Medal.

Other children were born:

Elizabeth Jane BASELEY 1861 in Dinapore.
Catherine Maria BASELEY 1863 in Dinapore.
Daniel John BASELEY 1865 in Saugor.

His wife Catherine must have died as on his return to England he re-married in 1869.

Any info welcome.
