Leicestershire / Re: Wigston burials, 17th century
« on: Wednesday 04 June 25 21:08 BST (UK)  »
Where are the sources for his parents being those two? As far as I know, there isn't any. Most of this is from Ancestry trees and they are completely false (As is mostly the case).

The only thing we know really about Anthony's life prior to marriage is that according to his will of 1626, he has a brother Richard Brewin, living at Broughton Astley and a cousin John Brewin, living at Little Stretton.
The only thing I can find about a Richard Brewin/Bruan is a marriage in Broughton Astley 1621 for a Richard Brian to Elizabeth Smith.
Cousin John Brewin we can pin as the John Brewin/Bruan who baptises children at Little Stretton in the 1590s. Married to an Elizabeth, who is buried 1618 Little Stretton 'Elizabeth, wife of John Bruan'. John then is buried 1637 Little Stretton, 'John Bruan, Senior, Husbandman'. This line stays at Little Stretton and are later styled 'Gentlemen'. (I descend from this line, as well as the Wigston Magna line).
This Bruan family of Stretton also Marry to a Mary Andrews in 1608 Great Stretton, who is then buried 1614 Little Stretton, 'Mary Bruan, the wife of Robert Bruan'. It should be noted that the Andrews family of Little Stretton have a Gentry connection. They descend from the Andrews of Bisbrooke. Their pedigree can be seen in Nichols Antiquities of Leicestershire. So we can know that the Brewin/Bruan family line of Little Stretton at least, are not of Labouring status. John Bruan is also one of the witnesses to the inventory of Edward Andrews, Gentleman, of Little Stretton, 1623.

Here is the Newspaper mention. Nothing noting any family.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Mary Jerson?
« on: Saturday 10 May 25 07:04 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for that.
I suppose I will still look for a Jerson/Ireson. Most others have it as ''Jewson'' and there are Jewson families in this area with the name variously spelt or transcribed as Jeuson/Jewson/Jeweson/Jusson/Juson/Jenson.
No baptism for a Mary though, that I can see.

I have a marriage between John Winter, Gentleman, of Terrington St John, Norfolk and a Mary, May 1696 at Terrington St John. Mary's name has been transcribed as ''Jerson'' on Ancestry, ''Person'' on FindMyPast and ''Juson'' on Freereg and many people have then changed this to ''Jewson''. I'd like a second opinion as I'm not quite sure and to me looks like ''Lerson''?.

Norfolk / Re: Archdeaconry Wills

Thank You for that. I'm not sure what I was doing earlier as Ive gone back and found it myself straight away. Too many tabs open on different image indexes is my excuse. I just realised that John was in the Norfolk and not Norwich AD. Thanks again.

Norfolk / Archdeaconry Wills
« on: Friday 09 May 25 16:10 BST (UK)  »
I cant seem to find two wills within the Archdeaconry of Norwich.
The wills can be viewed via familysearch but the fo. numbers dont appear to match these wills.
Ive been using this all morning alongside the Consistory Court one but I cant seem to find these two. Ive had no problem finding other wills via the fo. number on this link concerning the archdeaconry. https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/504379?availability=Family%20History%20Library

John Greene of North Lopham. 1673. Fo. 114. No.104. By accessing the 'Regd. copy wills, v. 59 1672-1673' Fo. number 114 appears to be covering the will of Richard Jeakell 1670? Although im not sure what No.104 means? https://nrocatalogue.norfolk.gov.uk/index.php/greene-john-of-north-lopham

Ann Parlet of Wiggenhall. 1694. Fo. 143. This appears to be missing, but must exist as its been indexed? There is a gap in the images for 143. https://nrocatalogue.norfolk.gov.uk/index.php/parlett-anne-of-wiggenhall

Hi,

The Thomas Cross bapt 1796 Witchford, son of Charles and Phoebe. It seems he dies 1838 Witchford.
The Thomas Cross bapt 1796 Manea, son of John and Elizabeth. It seems he dies 1802 Manea. They then baptise another son Thomas in 1803, who dies in 1849 Manea.
The Thomas Cross bapt 1795 Cottenham, son of John and Elizabeth. It seems he dies after 1881. He is living at Cottenham on all census records up until then.
There is a Thomas Cross, bapt 1793 at Bluntisham (About 12 miles from Ely), son of Philip Cross and Mary Kitson/Kidson. I cant seem to find this Thomas after the baptism in the local area so this could be a possibility? The age is about right. My Thomas consistently lists his birthplace as Ely though, on census.

Cambridgeshire / Thomas Cross of Middle Fen?

Looking for the parents of Thomas Cross.
I have Thomas Cross marrying Hannah Lawrence 7 Apr 1812. Thomas is a bachelor of St Marys Parish and Hannah, Spinster, of Ely Trinity.
In 1841 they are living in Middle Fen (Area between Stuntney and Queen Adelaide). Thomas is aged 45 (Birth date of 1796)
In 1851 they are living at Middle Fen Bank. Thomas is aged 58 (Birthdate of 1793).
1861 census was destroyed in a flood.
In 1871 Thomas and Hannah are living at Middle Fen. Thomas is aged 79 (Birthdate of 1792).
In 1841- 1851 Thomas is an Ag Lab but in 1871 he appears to be a farmer of 20 acres.
Birthplace is listed as Ely on census.
I believe he is the Thomas Cross who died at Stuntney 1877. Birthdate given as 1790.

I cant seem to find a baptism for him anywhere.
He is not the Thomas Cross, bapt 1791 Ely. Son of Charles Cross and Elizabeth Bartle. Pretty much all trees put these as his parents but this is a red herring. This family are also living at Middle Fen as well but this Thomas is living with father Charles in 1851 (Also at Middle Fen).

I do have a dna match with someone who descends from George Cross 1812 Ely, son of Philip Cross and Mary Ong but as far as I can see, this Philip did not a have a son called Thomas. So, the dna link might be at a further generation.
