Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Richard Morgan Alias Andrew?
« on: Thursday 05 February 26 17:06 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for that.
There seems to be no Richard Morgan/Andrew linked to Lakenheath. There are Andrews in nearby Mildenhall but they are all accounted for.
I did find a will for a Thomas Andrew, Gentleman, of Undley/Lakenheath 1725. No mention of a son (I did first think he was perhaps an illegitimate son, but it doesnt seem to be, given his possible age).

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Richard Morgan Alias Andrew?
« on: Thursday 05 February 26 15:59 GMT (UK)  »
I have an ancestor who on will has been transcribed as "Richard Morgan alias Andrew" but I dont think ''Andrew'' is correct?

On his burial in 1727 Lakenheath, Suffolk, he is just recorded as "Richard Morgan, Carpenter".
In his will, aside from children and wife, he mentions a cottage late belonging to a Robert Morgan and then mentions his kinswoman Susannah Morgan. There is no mention of an "Andrew" and when he signs the will its just "Richard Morgan".

Cambridgeshire / Double first cousins marrying?
« on: Wednesday 24 December 25 21:18 GMT (UK)  »
Looking at two of my ancestors, they appear to be double first cousins who married eachother?

I have William Brown, the Younger, marrying Elizabeth Harvey. Fordham, Cambs. 5 Oct 1791. Both are of the parish.

William Brown buried 1817 Fordham, Cambs. He is given as aged 51.
Fitting baptism I can see - 'William, son of Thomas Brown and Sarah'. 1767 Fordham, Cambs.
Thomas Brown marries Sarah Harvey 1762 Fordham, Cambs. Both of the Parish.
Thomas Brown buried 1823 Fordham, Cambs. Aged 82. Fitting baptism I can see - 'Thomas, Son of John Brown and Mary'. 1740 Fordham, Cambs. (John Brown marries Mary Spicer 1738 Fordham, Cambs. Both are Widowers).
Sarah Harvey buried 1815 Fordham, Cambs. Aged 78. 'Sarah, Wife of Thomas Brown'.
Fitting baptism I can see - 'Sarah, daughter of William Harvey and Elizabeth'. 1737 Fordham, Cambs.
(I have William Harvey marrying Elizabeth Peachey at nearby Mildenhall, Suffolk, 1736)

Elizabeth Harvey buried 1848 Fordham, Cambs. Aged 75. Only baptism I can see fitting (Given common aged descrepencies) - 'Elizabeth, daughter of William Harvey and Mary'. 1771 Fordham, Cambs.
William Harvey marries Mary Brown 1769 Fordham, Cambs. Both are of the parish.
William Harvey buried 1831 Fordham, Cambs. Aged 86.
Fitting baptism I can see - 'William, son of William Harvey and Elizabeth' 1745 Fordham, Cambs. Appears to be the same family as Sarah Harvey above. Making William and Sarah siblings.
Mary Brown buried 1828 Fordham, Cambs. Aged 79. 'Mary, wife of William Harvey'.
Fitting baptism I can see - 'Mary, daughter of John Brown and Mary' 1748 Fordham, Cambs.
Appears to be the same family as Thomas Brown above. Making Mary and Thomas siblings.

Have I got this correct?

Suffolk / Re: Susan Key or Briddy?
« on: Thursday 13 November 25 14:17 GMT (UK)  »
The reason why I never saw this as on FindMyPast this record is just transcribed as 'Susannah, daughter of Henry and Priscilla Brady'. Only on Ancestry transcription does it include 'Key'. I just purchased the image of the register and it does indeed say 'Susannah Key'. So I'm pretty sure it's her.

I think I might have found her.
'Susannah Key Brady, daughter of Henry and Priscilla. Baptised Lexden, Essex. 1761.
Fits with burial age. Brady and Briddy with accent is close sounding.

So now that Ancestry have images of Suffolk registers I can now see.

It seems like her surname is 'Briddy' and her first name is 'Susannahkey'??
The clerk inserts 'Key' after her first name Susan on the baptism of their son George in 1785 (I will attach a copy) as if its part of her first name. Then below when noting her full name, the words are closer together but the K is capitalised 'Susan Key Briddy' or 'Susankey Briddy'.
Is this meant to be the name 'Sukey Briddy' and they are taking the 'Su' part as 'Susan/Susannah' fully?
On the baptism of their daughter Susan in 1783 it states 'Susan Key, daughter of George and Susan Key Argent'. It seems like 'Key' is part of her name?

On their marriage in 1782 Glemsford her name is wrote as 'SusannahKey Briddy' by the clerk but she signs as 'Susannah Key Briddy'?

She is one of the Susan Argents who dies in either 1833 or 1834 Glemsford. One has a birthdate given as 1760, the other as 1770. Given marriage at 1782, I'd think its the former one. So a birthdate c1760.

I can't see any families called Briddy.
There is a baptism of a Thomas 'Bruty' in 1770 Glemsford, to a Thomas and Mary.
In nearby Clare, there is a family baptising with the names Brady/Braddy/Bruty but no Susan/Susannah*.

Travelling People / William Boswell, Romany?
« on: Monday 25 August 25 18:55 BST (UK)  »
I have a William Boswell/Boswel, of Wigston Magna, Leicestershire and a wife Jane.
They baptise children between 1716 and 1732.
William is buried 1768 Wigston Magna and Jane buried 1751 Wigston Magna.
No Boswell's in Wigston Magna prior to daughter Ann baptised in 1716, so they come from another parish.
I have seen one tree state that William is Romany but I don't know where this information is from.
I know there were Romany Boswell's in Leicestershire during the 18th century. I cant find a marriage between William and Jane either.
He is not the William Boswell of Bottesford, Leicestershire. Bapt 1696. This William is buried 1706.
Any help appreciated.

Where are the sources for his parents being those two? As far as I know, there isn't any. Most of this is from Ancestry trees and they are completely false (As is mostly the case).

The only thing we know really about Anthony's life prior to marriage is that according to his will of 1626, he has a brother Richard Brewin, living at Broughton Astley and a cousin John Brewin, living at Little Stretton.
The only thing I can find about a Richard Brewin/Bruan is a marriage in Broughton Astley 1621 for a Richard Brian to Elizabeth Smith.
Cousin John Brewin we can pin as the John Brewin/Bruan who baptises children at Little Stretton in the 1590s. Married to an Elizabeth, who is buried 1618 Little Stretton 'Elizabeth, wife of John Bruan'. John then is buried 1637 Little Stretton, 'John Bruan, Senior, Husbandman'. This line stays at Little Stretton and are later styled 'Gentlemen'. (I descend from this line, as well as the Wigston Magna line).
This Bruan family of Stretton also Marry to a Mary Andrews in 1608 Great Stretton, who is then buried 1614 Little Stretton, 'Mary Bruan, the wife of Robert Bruan'. It should be noted that the Andrews family of Little Stretton have a Gentry connection. They descend from the Andrews of Bisbrooke. Their pedigree can be seen in Nichols Antiquities of Leicestershire. So we can know that the Brewin/Bruan family line of Little Stretton at least, are not of Labouring status. John Bruan is also one of the witnesses to the inventory of Edward Andrews, Gentleman, of Little Stretton, 1623.

Here is the Newspaper mention. Nothing noting any family.
