To a very distant Cousin

I was never very good at school at working on family relationships, so goodness knows how many 'removes' we are!

My Austins go back from Mary b 1686 to Henry b 1350 but  after that, the link to Edward III b 1312 is a little more tenuous!

Do you live anywhere near Rutland?

Best wishes, John

Hi Matt

My mother's father's family tree starts with a Mary Austen b circa 1686 around Ashford, in Kent.

The first Austin I have in Wye is Matthew baptised 01.10.1629 and his father is Valentine b circa 1595, so I am not sure where our families merge?

Hi, I am not sure that we are sharing the correct Ladd family ... my ancestors came from Barham and Elham in Kent around the late 1400s, with John Ladde being born around 1400. If Jane Ladd was related then I will happily share that part of my family tree.

Durham / Re: Rowland Lumley

I have similar connections to the Lumleys from Ovingham / Ryton, in Durham.

Richard Lumley b 1620 (Ryton) was my wife's father's great x 7 grandfather. He was married to "Gracie" Dodd in Ryton on the 11th May 1647.

In following this line back, I end up with George Lumley (b 1550) who married Anne Blakiston (who inherited the Gibside Estate (Durham)) and the Blakiston line ends with Hugo b circa 1288.

If you need any more information ... do reply.

I have used two electronic files offering the same information:

Mawson FT (Ancestry)
Pedigree Resource File - Steven James Temple (Family Search)

The Common Room / William Mawson 1540 Leeds
« on: Sunday 09 December 18 13:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my mother's family tree and have found ancestors living near Leeds, in Barwick in Elmet. My great (x12) grandfather was a William MAWSON born in 1540. All the family tree information appears to have his father (another William) being born in 1510 in Lincolnshire circa 45 miles east around Kettleby. There appears no good reason for this change in location, and worryingly the William born in 1510 has a wife, Elizabeth Tyrwhitt, who was born and died in Lincolnshire, making the birth of her offspring near Leeds most unlikely.
Baptisms start being recorded in Barwick in Elmet after 1600, with the Church register starting in 1653, so there appears no way of corroborating other's family trees.

Can anyone please help?  Thanks, John

Hi Lisa

We are related! I too go back through Thomas Ladd born 1500 in Barham, Kent, whose son Thomas was married to Elizabeth Mumbray. Apparently they had a daughter, Affra who married Stephen
Hogben born 1556. I think it is the right family as Affra appears as a grand-daughter on two separate occasions.

I have the Ladds going back to John born circa 1400 and married to an Agnes.

If you let me have your email address I can send you my family connection and other Ladd information I have gleaned from the internet.

Regards, John

Hi Lisa

"The link" was with the Roots topic, not an internet link. As my ancestors were a long way back, I was just interested if anyone else had the same connections.

Regards, John
