Hi, this is a bit of a long shot. I am looking for a relative called, Thomas Tempelton Bernard Cole, he was from the north of Ireland. He signed up for a 12 year engagement, on 3.9.1909 working as a Leading Stoker in the R.N., being based in Chatham. H.M.Pembroke. Would be grateful for any help.
Catherine.

Thank you for this further information. I have also come across Sarah, but I believe that she is the daughter of James, Williams older brother and 1st cousin to James William Frederic. I also have a John
Nicholson married to a Margaret, with a daughter Susan, but can find no connection with the rest of the family. Still finding the age difference between Edward and William hard to explane. I think there most be a link that is missing

Sorry, getting a bit muddled. I have a reference which says that an Edward Nicholson, from the wealthy Nicholsons of New Buildings bought Beech Hill  House in 1875, this is also included in a break down of his will, in 1884. Which states that the late Edward Nicholson, formerly of  the city of Manchester, but late of Beech Hill house. According to a bio of Edward his last place of residence in Manchester finished in 1879. I know now that New buildings is a part of Derry, but was it considered such then? The dates for William being born in Ireland in 1830 would appear to fit into the chronology, I hope meaning that, although there is quite an age gap between them that he and Edward were brothers. On googling the name Nicholson, there appears a lot of streets, etc called Nicholson. I don't know how common the name of Nicholson is in Ireland.

I have found a reference to a William Nicholson, Born Co.Derry 1830, and moved to Manchester around 1851/2. Initially he was listed as a Civil engineer, but by 1853 he had added the profession of Architect. I wonder if he is the father to my James William Frederic Nicholson.
We also have an Edward Nicholson, are they brothers. He was Born Ireland 1806, moved to Manchester where he also worked as an Architect. He was I believe the owner of Beech hill.
The date you have found for William in the 1881 census seems to fit. Does it name the place where he was born? There are a lot of Nicholson Place, street names in the city of Derry.

Thank you for that information. I am trying to connect a James William Ferderic Nicholson to this family. Although born in Ireland,  he was an architect and spent most of his time practicing in Manchester England. He met and married an Elizabeth McLaughlin in Coleraine in 1878, but all three of his children were born in England.Could he be a brother of Edward Nicholson d 1883, who also spent time working in England, where his son Thomas Francis was also born.

Hi, I am descended from an uncle of your Patrick, ( married to Catherine Donnelly Campbell). His uncle was also called Patrick and married an Ellen Mary Mooney. He was a spirit merchant, as was your Patrick, with both being based on the waterside of Coleraine. I have been working on my family tree, and have all the children of your Patrick, some fourteen in number. Are you descended from one of them? Would love to hear from you.
