Norfolk Resources & Offers / Re: LINK : public houses and licensees
« on: Friday 23 June 06 10:52 BST (UK)  »
This is a fantastic sight. Followed my ancesters through their moves between pubs, and was also able to offer corrections to some of the info, which has now been incorporated in the sight. It is useful for photos of pubs to insert into family history files.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Kelly's directory info Robert THURSTON
« on: Friday 23 June 06 10:48 BST (UK)  »
Am trying to determine where Robert Thurston, a baker was between 1872 and 1880. He is likely to be in Newmarket or Norwich. He is listed in 1888 Kelly's for Newmarket, and 1881 census shows him in Newmarket also.(Both Albion St & Wellington St). 1871 census shows him as a journeyman baker in Cambridge, hence not having his own business.
Hope someone can help with these 8 years
Thanks

Hi warmwig.
I am also tracing the thurston family, but have got stuck pre 1841 census.
I don't know whether we are following the same branch, but my ancestor Daniel Thurston ran a pub in EastTuddenham in 1841, and then ran the Bull pub in Norwich.
His son ran a bakery in Newmarket with his elder brother. The latter disappeared with all the money, and the business went bankrupt.
Ring any bells?

Hi Ricky 1
Yes, thank you very much.
Born in East Tuddenham as stated. Married (for second time) Hannah Filby on June 16th 1878 in Heigham, Norwich(Church of St Philip).
I am now looking to trace more details of his father (Daniel) as listed in 1841 census. Aged 40 in 1841, he appears to have been born in 1801.
Now really need Daniels birth cert/details, but am still searching.
Have joined nfhs, as I am 200 miles away from norfolk.
Thanks for your help

Hi
Sorry, but no link appears at present. The branch of the family I am looking at although bakers in Newmarket as above came from the Norwich area, and as yet I have no George, certainly not in 1861.

Many Thanks Nicky. What a speedy reply. I have ordered Robert's marriage cert, so hopefully with names on that I can cement another step backwards. :

I am trying to determine if a Robert Thurston was born in East Tuddenham circa 1838. Only offspring are known at this time, not his parent details. ::)
