And I’ve found the old courthouse on Marylebone Lane. It evidently was demolished and became the Stratford Court Hotel, and then another hotel. I’ve found the location, so can go and see for myself.

I’ve also seen it written that it was at the Guardians’ Offices? https://leicester.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/api/collection/p16445coll4/id/38404/download

Another newspaper item says "Bancroft-road, Mile End - road registry office". So in this general location.

I might be completely wrong (not unusual), but could the Mile End Registry Office have been at Vestry Hall?

I think you could well be right. I’ve found it so with other registry offices I’ve successfully tracked down. The building is still standing, so I’ll ask the present occupants if they know anything. Thanks maddys52!

London and Middlesex / Mile End Old Town and Marylebone register offices
« on: Sunday 03 August 25 20:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I’ve searched Google Books for anything relating to the Mile End Old Town register office, to try and find the address and see if the building is still standing or at least what is on the site now, as I have a marriage in my family here from 1873. I’ve not turned anything up except annual returns of births, marriages, and deaths. Could anyone please help me?

For the Marylebone register office, I read this was a court that was later demolished, with Marylebone Town Hall replacing it in its functions. The wedding in question for this was in 1890. Could anyone please find for me what is now on the site?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Adam

Thanks all — sorry: I did mean the addresses of the marrying parties. But thanks for the history Neale1961! I will go and visit the church too.

London and Middlesex / Addresses for 1881 and 1882 marriages
« on: Saturday 19 July 25 07:14 BST (UK)  »
Morning all,

I have down two marriages in my records:

William Goddard and Elizabeth Harding née Stockton, married at All Saints, Battle Bridge, 20th of November 1882.
George Dudley and Elizabeth Goddard née Smith, married at the same church, 3rd of October 1881

Could anyone please tell me if there are any addresses listed and, if so, what they are? I’ve been going down to London to photograph surviving houses, churches, workplaces, and so on; so would love to visit anything that’s still standing or find what’s on the site (I have a very useful mapping tool through university that I’d be happy to help any other users with).

Also, I am en route currently to visit the Essex Record Office in Chelmsford — my second such visit after going to Hertford a couple of months ago.

Best wishes,

Adam

I was just about to post an image from a different newspaper at BNA when I realised that the girl who was saved (her father died) may well be alive. It sounds as if you may have BNA access so here is a link instead.

Thank you!

It’s Saturday April 14th 1979.

It would probably be unwise of me to post an image to prove it, but to the side of the headline article there is a photo of a dark haired woman with long hair in a middle parting who is in fact an actress (Kate Jackson) from Charlies Angels, the photo has the caption above “Angel’s farewell” which perhaps you can make out?

Yes, that’s the one. Thanks very much indeed.
