Hi - thank you for your response - It has not been easy to get information regarding the Devir's / Diver's as you already know.  So it is really great to make contact.  Dalmeny

Hi - I too am searching for ancestors Devir - my husbands great grandfather was Dominick Devir, born 1836/7 in Donegal (we believe), mother's name Ellen. He came to Australia on the Montmorency in 1864.  I believe he was the brother of Sophia and Catherine. We have recently met my husband's 2nd cousin - they share their grandfathers who were twins (sons of Dominick). Dominick married Johanna Dooley in Sydney and they resided at Bowraville, NSW. In Australia Johanna went by the name of Julia. Their marriage certificate notes Dominick's parents as John Diver and Ellen Ferry. Johanna's parents listed as Nicholas Dooley and Johanna Kelly. They had 6 children (John, Nicholas, Dominick (twin), Michael (twin), Johanna & Ellen). By the look of Dominick's surname on the marriage certificate it was also written and signed as Diver.
My husband has always believed, via his mother who was a Devir, that the name was changed after arrival in Australia, so the original name could have been Diver.
I am not sure what date you posted questions on Rootsweb so I am hoping you have further information about the Devir/Diver family. Looking forward to a reply.
