Hi Heywood,

He was enlisted on 6th May 1918.

Sinann,
His Birthday on his discharge document is 7th August 1883.

Please disregard him living in Carhoon in the 1901 census or being related to the Treacys living there as it appears there may not be strong enough links for me to be 100% sure this is the same Thomas Burke.

Thanks,
Mike.

Hi Heywood,
Jim1 is correct the date on his discharge papers is indeed 1883.  I can confirm this is without a doubt the correct papers for my grandfather.
On findmypast I unlocked the household register for his address in Forest Town, Nottinghamshire and his date of Birth is stated as 6th August 1885.  This is also without a doubt my grandfather.
I'm now searching for my link with him and carhoon, a Thomas Burke is on the 1901 Census but now you have asked I'm not sure how I linked him to the address other than his age!  Thankyou for asking the question I will look into this.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the reply Sinann,

I now have Thomas Burkes Discharge Document from the war and it has yet another birth date on it :)

Even with this document it doesn't give any information with regards to his parents.

Does anyone have any further suggestions to what I could do to find his mothers name?

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you everyone for your help especially Max for going to so much trouble for me.

The vital piece of information I require and I am still missing is his mothers name so I can apply for his birth certificate.  With this information the registry office can be sure they are providing me with the correct certificate for Thomas Burke.  I'm aware his fathers name is Patrick Burke but have no further details other than he was deceased at the time of Thomas getting married in 1918.

I was hoping the information in his discharge papers may have provided names of parents but unfortunately not.

Any further advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks
Mike

Thankyou for your replies.
I have had a search on the national archives but no luck.

Jebber, could you tell me what information I could get from his discharge papers please?
I don't mind paying for it as long as it has the information I'm looking for :)

Hi Everyone,
would anyone be so kind as to do a look up for me? Its for my Grandfather, his name was Thomas Burke, I believe he was born in Tuam, Co Galway, Ireland on the 6th August 1885 although the date may not be 100% accurate.
in 1918 he recorded the following on his marriage certificate:
No 13110 Private 5th Co 1st Batt Irish Guards.
Any information at all would be much appreciated,
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Again Everyone,
could someone please do a lookup for me?  I now have the following information about Thomas Burke:
Thomas Burke.....
Born 6th August 1885.....
Married to Mary Ann Allen, on the 1st June 1918 at Holy Cross Church, Whitwick, Leicestershire, England......
Died 20th November 1970 (Mary Died 17th July 1968) buried at St Alban The Martyr Church, Forest Town, Nottinghamshire. Living in Forest Town at the time of Death & in the 1939 Census.
Fathers name is Patrick Burke – Deceased in 1918 at the time the Marriage Certificate was produced.......
1901 Census Of Ireland Thomas was living in Carhoon, County Galway with his Aunty Bridget (Burke) Treacy who was married to Patrick Treacy and lived with there 5 Children.  Thomas was 15 years of age, Patrick 42 and Bridget 36.

The registry office cant find a Thomas Burke born on his birthday but I know the above information to be accurate.

I now only need his mothers name then I'm sure the registry office can help me with a birth certificate for him.

Thanks,
Mike.
