Perthshire / Re: Perthshire pre-1855 Monumental Instriptions look up offer

I was wondering if you could do a search for a Malcolm McLaren (b.1796) and his wife Jean Shaw(b.1801) in Kilmadock. I believe Jean died before 1851 and Malcolm died sometime between 1851 and 1854.

Thank you!

I was wondering if you could have a look to see if there are any McAdams in Bonhill or Kilmaronock?

Thanks for offering to do this.

Kind regards,
Caroline

Hi Stephen,

Are there any Hoods mentioned in the Loudon records?

Kind regards,

I would love to know Duncan and Ann's marriage details

Hi Ross,

If you look on the IGI you'll find that Duncan and Ann got married in Dunblane on 20/12/1860. No sign of his parents anywhere though, I think continuing to search the censuses is your best bet!

Hi Linda,

As far as I know the Venturafair Houses were cottages for colliery workers and this was definitely the case at the time of  the 1881 census. I could see if your relatives were living there in 1881 if you haven't already got this info.

Just came across your post and wasn't sure from the above discussion whether you realised that the cottage you saw for sale could have been your ancestors home.

Kilmaronock is a parish rather than a place and contains the village of Gartocharn. Mavie mill is in the back road between Croftamie and Gartocharn and is definitely still there. I assume you are related to the McAuleys who were there in 1881

My family, McLarens, stayed just along the road and in 1881 they were employing an Elizabeth McAuley. She was born in Glasgow though so probably no relation to you.

If you need more details on the area let me know. I assume you have the family in the 1881 census?

Hi Sue,

Yes I did find that on the NAA site - that's where I got the dates from. Afraid I made a slight mistake with Roberts birth date, but fixed it now!

Thanks for taking the time to look.

Looking for descendants of the Patterson family who emigrated to NSW from Glasgow in 1951.

Robert Muirhead Patterson (b.1923) and his wife Christina Mckenzie Strang (b. 1928) had a son Robert (b.1949).

They were last heard of in Narrabeen in 1959.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Searching for Strang
« on: Monday 13 February 06 15:47 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for Donald Alexander Mckay Strang ,who was born in Glasgow in 1932, or any descendants

He emigrated to NSW in 1959 and family rumours have it that he went on to New Zealand, although nobody has heard from him since he left Scotland all these years ago.
