Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Molly short for Louise?
« on: Monday 26 June 17 19:05 BST (UK)  »
Thanks all so far, yes Jen B this is the family I am looking at. Ethel was a visitor in 1901 and married to John by 1911. I could only find three children prior to Ethel so obviously their mother must have passed away but if we read it right and there were four children, maybe Ethel had a child that died?
Ruskie thank you! Doris had become a small mystery and without knowing her mother's maiden name I had become a little stuck.

I wondered if because of the year of birth Molly would be Louise/Louisa just found it an unusual shortened name! Yes I think you're right, the mother maybe died by something childbirth related, the timing seems correct

Now to figure out the missing child!

Census and Resource Discussion / Molly short for Louise?

Thoughts if you may.. Molly Ashworth listed on 1911 census born in 1901 Wolverhampton but on the 1901 census for the same family I can only see Louise A Ashworth born in 1901. Would it be logical to think this was a nickname for her?

The number of children has been struck through a number of times on the 1911 one, but i believe it shows one child died so trying to eliminate any possibilities.

I've not heard of this as a shortened version for Louise but could be wrong?

Hi,

In 1939 John was listed as 'Returning Officer Local Authority' but the family was in Blackpool at the time. My father believes the cinema could have been a sideline and not necessarily an occupation but i do know that John changed jobs often after completing war service.

No idea of the cinema name, sorry. Here lies the crux of my problem!

Thank you for your pointers, i will try looking there and its probably prudent i search Blackpool and Cheshire as i know he lived in these areas too. Manchester was the location my father believed it to be in but he could be mistaken.

Apologies again for the post duplication

The Common Room / Advice on how to search - cinema ownership..?

Not sure how to begin a search so anyone's input would be appreciated!

I have been told that my great grandfather owned/co owned a cinema in Manchester. His name was John Ashworth Tyler (b. 1898 d. 1983). I'm not sure on a date range but it would have been between 1930 - 1950 at least. Potentially slightly later. It's a wide range i appreciate but how would i start to look into this?

Thank you so much! I had trouble finding them in 1901 after they had married in 1896 so was starting to lose hope. I appreciate your help  :)

Family History Beginners Board / John W Tyler - missing children
« on: Monday 05 June 17 14:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi - trying to complete a puzzle piece in the family tree.
From a 1911 census i have identified that John W Tyler had three children but two had died - i believe somewhere in the time span of 1900 - 1911. I can find the one living child but would like to know if possible the ages, sex of the other two or at least a time period.

John came from Cheshire but was in Wales at this time. Any suggestions?
