Thanks guys...since the original post I've found out that Sarah Jane died c.1934/35 (she was in her early 80's) and she in fact lived with my grandmother in Sailortown in the last couple of years of her life.  The whole family except one sibling ended up in Belfast in the early 1900's.  Still know precious little about her early life.  Her family may have lived in Milliken's Entry in Antrim Town.  Her father was called Daniel Dogherty and her mother Agnes Boyd.  She had two brothers I know of, Robert (Bob) and Daniel (Dinny), other siblings may have ended up in Canada.

Thanks very much.  My gr-grandfather Constantine McAlister (sometimes Cornelius McAllister) was an engine driver and seems to have moved around a bit with his job.  I know they lived in Whitla St in 1903.  The two addresses I asked you to look up are taken from my grandparents' marriage certificate in Nov. 1910.  Neither names mean anything but the addresses could have been "digs".  Is there such as thing as a 1910 directory??

If you have Belfast Directory for 1909 could you look up 22 Earl St and see who was living there and also 144 Nelson St

Thanks

It's important to remember that this site does not claim to be 100% accurate.  I have used it quite a bit and found it useful in about 90% of occasions but it does contain some errors

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: 1901 Census - Magherafelt - McAllister

Found out more info.  The name varied between McAlister and McAllister and her father's name was definitely Constantine (he was known as Con).  Her mother was from Antrim town.  They lived in Magherafelt approx 1883-1895.

Antrim / Dogherty, Sarah Jane

Looking for any info on my great-grandmother Sarah Jane Dogherty (note unusual spelling).  She was probably born circa 1855-1860.  Although this variant of the name was prevalent in Cos Donegal and Derry, my father believes she came from around the Antrim Town area and there is some legend of her family being mentioned in "My Lady of The Chimney Corner".  She married an engine driver Cornelius (aka Constantine) McAllister and had 6 children.  I know they lived in Magherafelt in 1890 (according to my grandmother's birth cert) but may have moved around due to the nature of his job.  She died in the mid 1920's in Belfast.

Looking for info on my grandmothers family.  She was born Catherine MC ALLISTER in April 1890.  Her father was Cornelius (sometimes Constantine) McAllister , an engine driver and her mother was Sarah Jane (nee Dogherty) note unusual spelling.  They may have lived in Church Street.
