This may confuse the issue...

The following is from South Tyneside Register office:

   Robert RIDLEY
   Spouse: Ann PIKE
   Register: C K2
   Entry: 231
   Date: 05/10/1873

No evidence so far -checked on freebmd - nothing! Can't see a death either. She doesn't appear as SMALL in 1881 either.

Well thanks for looking anyway! :D

just seen your last post - I think I have traced the majority of the family and no sign of  Caroline.

I'm trying to find Caroline, b. 1826 in Chatham, Kent, in Co Durham, probably in South Shields as that's where her family is. In1841, she's with her sister in Whitburn  Bents but is not there in 1851. If she's still around , she's mistranscribed on the site I use!

Be very grateful if anyone can find her!

Durham / Thomas GAZE
« on: Wednesday 14 May 08 13:30 BST (UK)  »
Here's hoping some supersleuth might be able to find Thomas Gaze, with (I hope) wife Ann, in any census!

The only information I have is that Ann, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy SMALL, married Thomas GAZE , son of Thomas, a farmer, on 7th November 1838 at St Hilda's South Shields. Ann was born in Chatham, Kent in 1819.

According to the website I use for the census, there is no one with the the name GAZE,  in Co Durham at all, yet on freebmd there are children born with the surname.

Wishing you more luck than I've had!

HI Danone

I spoke to "my" Mabel this afternoon and it seems she is "the one" you're looking for!  ;D ;D

She confirmed that Vera was Albert's sister and that her maiden name was WESTON.

Mabel, after Albert's death, moved to a bungalow on St Mary's Avenue and then later into St Mary's Court (not Fairfield Court, which is the old people's flats on Ashburton Rd, opposite the school.)

Mabel was thrilled to bits to think someone was looking for her and can't wait to know more details! If you would like to send me further details in a pm about yourself and your family, if you don't want to place personal details on here, I will pass them on. Perhaps you and Mabel may then want to meet up.

Hope to hear from you soon!  :D ;D :D

Hi Carole

Am posting same reply on the NBL board:

Thanks for the welcome! I must be better as I'm able to concentrate on FH and work on the computer!

My own family goes back to the mid to late 1700s, apparently being based in South Shields, then they pootle off for several years to chatham in Kent before returning to Shields in the 1830s.

I'm interested in tracking other SMALL families to see if there are any links to mine.

The main names in my family are: Charles, Robert, Francis, and Nicholas; but the only unusual female name is Dorothy.
