Edward had no siblings, as far as he was aware. His parents left him with The Hamer family in 1918, after signing a "memorandum of agreement" stating they were leaving him in the care of the Hamers. They never returned.
I have followed up the violin maker (census and marriage) and think it very unlikely that he was the father.
Thanks for the Birth info on Christina, I'll check it out.

I've tried the census search on ancestry for Scotland and scotlandspeople.gov site for a marriage with a date covering as far back as would be possible for a marriage bearing mind the date of birth of their son in 1915, no matches found.

The Common Room / Edward Barton

I have come to a complete dead end. I've been searching for the parents of Joseph Barton b 23/5/1915 75 Cedar St. Derby.
I have his birth certificate, parents are listed as Joseph Edward Barton (Music teacher, Pianist) and Christina Mowatt Barton formerly Johnston. When Edward was a year old the family lodged with The Hamer family in Treharrie, Glamorgan. Edward was subsequently know as Edward Barton Hamer.
I've tried every search I can think of and cannot find a trace of his parents marriage, if it occurred or their births or deaths.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much for your reply, I had just about given up with the Acocks.
This piece of information has given me the motivation to restart my research on this branch.

The Common Room / Rescue Homes

Hi All,
I'm trying to find information on St Helena's Rescue Home, Upper Grove, Margate.
Grace Mason, b 1893 Ipswich was listed as an inmate there in the 1911 census.
I'm thinking it may have been a mother and baby home?? In which case I may be missing a Mason from my tree!
Along with the inmates were mission sisters and probation sister for the church army.

I've ordered it, should be here in a day or two. I feel that it may be impossible too.
Thanks though as I hadn't thought of father's occupation.

Shropshire / Perkins

Hi
I'm trying to research the family of James Edward Perkins b April 1917 Atcham. His mothers maiden name was Lewis but I've come up with 2 families. The first is Thomas (b 1844) and Elizabeth (b 1851) Perkins, in Atcham on the 1911 census. They seems far too old to have a son in 1917 (although they did have a single daughter, Margaret Elizabeth, at home aged 27 in 1917).
Or more lightly as far as age is concerned Thomas (b1880) and Elizabeth (b 1880) Perkins in Wentor. Both Elizabeths seem to have the maiden name Lewis.
James Perkins never lived with his birth family he was given(?) or went to live with the Powell family in Wellington as baby.
I can't start the search until I can work out who his parents were.
Any help is much appreciated.
