Ayrshire / Re: shaw family 1881 census

I'm so glad to ahve found this site, I'm hoping it can help me find out more. My family has not been good at passing down this information, and my oldest living relative has alzheimers, so sometimes she is able to share bits and pieces but we're not sure if it's accurate.
What I have is my grandmother's name and DOB, Shirley Shaw, Jan 15, 1929. She was born here in Canada, but her parents, Joseph Shaw and his wife Jennie Shaw nee Ferguson(DOB unknown, DOD 1974), emigrated to Canada from Scotland  sometime before 1911 when their first child was born, Robert Shaw.  Next child was Pearl, then Charles William(1913-1977), then Donald, and then my grandmother, Shirley Josephine. We don't know for sure if it was Jennie and Joseph that emigrated, or possibly their parents.
I know that either Jennie Ferguson's father OR Joseph Shaw's father, was named James. That's it unfortunately. I don't even know what area of Scotland, but I am pretty sure that Joseph Shaw's father was part of a highland regiment.
If anyone can add any info, I would really appreciate it.
Other names I have been told are Farquharson, MacDougal, and my own maiden name is Hughes. The Hughes side is from Ireland. My father is Larry Hughes, my grandfather was Alton hughes, his father was James Hughes.
