Family History Beginners Board / Re: Looking for Shea, or O'Shea.

Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864.

See https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/faq/  What civil records are online?

My William was born before that, so the only way i can get any kind of record is from the Baptisimal records, thats where the attachment came from.
But then what if they weren't Baptised for one reason or another, you kind of have nothing to go on.
At least you can get the Father's name from the Marriage Certificate, so thats a little bit helpful.

What conflicting reports? Is that something you found in someone else's family tree?
[/quote]

On his profile page in my family tree on Ancestry It is in the life stories section, but i don't remember putting or writing it.
Unless if i accepted a hint from somebody, would it have come up from their family tree.

Now when i started my family tree it was on MyHeritage, and i connected with the O'Shea/Shea family in Offaly/Tipperary.  Then i did the DNA on there and put it into the tree, and something did come back with a distant connection to Azerbaijan.

Looking for a birth record for a William Shea.
Mother:  Catherine Brophy
Father:  Edward Shea

I have a Baptisim record for July 1837, in Barna.  See attached.

Conflicting reports about him beinging born in Barda, Azerbaijan.
I don't think that makes sense though, unless he was adopted by William and Catherine.

Thank you kindly.

William Power was most definitely a widower when he married Anne McDonald in 1868.
There are two other names floating around for Williams Wife on ancestry, we have a Jane or another name beginning with a B.
I've been searching, and i couldn't come up with anything.

I wonder if this is the death of William Power Snr, from Prosperous and he died in 1878 (6 Sept 1878).  His age is given as 74 years so a birth in 1804.  So quite a bit older than Anne.  The death is reported from the town of Prosperous, love the name, which is the town that William gives as his residence on the marriage certificate. The person reporting could be Anne though at first I thought it was Alice.

With an age difference it is quite likely that Alice/Alicia would be Anne's step daughter.

Residence Prosperous and maiden name is McDonald

Anthony Joseph - birth

Residence Prosperous and maiden name is McDonald

In looking up the births I was looking for the name of the person who registered them. Sometimes it will be the grandmother ie wifes' mother esp if this is a first child.

The Irish did have a naming pattern and it is worth seeing if this may have been used in this family

Traditional Naming Pattern
A traditional naming pattern was often used by Irish parents until the later 19th century:

First son usually named for the father's father
Second son usually named for the mother's father
Anthony
Third son usually named for the father
Fourth son usually named for the father's eldest brother
Fifth son usually named for the mother's eldest brother
First daughter usually named for the mother's mother  ? Maria/Mary
Second daughter usually named for the father's mother
? Bridget
Third daughter usually named for the mother
Fourth daughter usually named for the mother's eldest sister
Fifth daughter usually named for the father's eldest sister.

Yeah, i found the name Bridget to be pretty consistant in the family. There was lots of sons and daughters being named after parents and grandparents.

Anne Power death in 1903. Age 63 years, suggests birth about 1840.

That looks about right, she did have a son called Anthony.

I agree with Carole - difficult to advise with little information. If it is your tree, where did you find Alice?

Is this the marriage?
1868, County Kildare
William Power -widower
Anne McDonald spinster

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1868/11449/8205828.pdf

It does say Widower on there for William, so there was a first wife before Anne then.
So Alice/Alicia does have a different mother to her siblings.

I found Alice or Alicia a while back, took a long time to find her mother Anne McDonald, but now i'm questioning that fact whether or not Anne was her Mother or her Step-mother given the birth years between her and her siblings.

You have posted on the Beginners board & given no information about what country or county  she was born in or where the marriage took place??

Where did you get the birthyears from?

You need to include all relevant info

I still consider myself a beginner, Ireland is the country and Kildare would be the county.
The other information came from ancestry hints from other people researching the same family, but they don't have her mother either. I want to check to make sure it is right before adding it to my tree.
