Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Stumped by T-M70 Haplogroup for McQuire
« on: Wednesday 23 April 25 08:30 BST (UK)  »
Now I'm puzzled too.  I tested with ftdna > 5 years ago (Y67) and their website tells me I'm T-M70.  It also tells me it has no Y-DNA matches for me at even the Y12 level.    Why do we not see each other?

(My direct male line takes me back to Yorkshire in England, to the 1730s: validated by umpteen autosomal matches.)

The Common Room / (Another) Ancestry problem
« on: Friday 16 August 24 19:35 BST (UK)  »
I don't know if this has already been brought to the board's attention, but I know I haven't seen it, so here goes.

In the Ancestry dataset: "England and Wales, Death Index, 1989-2022" some of the dates are wrong.  e.g. 2 March instead of 3rd February, 9 Nov instead of 11 Sep.  The correct day/month numbers have been substituted somehow for the American month/day usage.    I've no idea if this is throughout the relevant dates, but I've seen these two examples today.  Be aware.

I imagine that in the first ingestion of the data all dates were converted to number/number form, and the subsequent indexing is where the fault lies.  But it's Ancestry, so who knows.

Thanks again Zaph.

I finally got in.  Previously, after being turned away, I changed my password, allowing my browser (Safari) to suggest a "strong" one, but was once more turned away.  I got in by changing it again to a short, much more simple one.

Thank you: that worked.

Thanks Zaph.  I routinely clear my cookies but it has had no effect.

I couldn't see a way to report the problem to MH: how did you manage it?

I'm afraid when I click on the link you posted rootschat returns an error ("an error has occurred".). I'll check back through old posts.

Anybody else having this problem?

The "contact us" system appears to be a "don't contact us" maze of irrelevance.

No apology necessary: the nonsensical reply referred to was a reply from me to your original post.  After I posted it I realised it had a logical flaw and tried to delete it, but found I could only modify it, to what eventually appeared.  (My reply wondered whether the numbers you saw were simply a reflection of each country's population).

(Nonsensical reply cancelled).

Is there any way of deleting a post?

Wow, that was fast.  Thanks for the clarification: Googling "no true bill" led to some useful sites.
