I believe that practically all of the Claxtons in Ireland were originally "Clugston" or "Clogstoun", which comes from Galloway, Scotland, and are unrelated to the Claxtons from Norfolk. Many of them used the spelling "Cluxton", as well.
I have a collection of information about this family here:

I'm hoping to find a Claxton male from County Laois or Waterford to do a Y-DNA test to confirm this.

Interestingly, under Biblically law, if your brother died, if you were unmarried you HAD to marry his widow. So it is not at all symmetrical.
Deuteronomy 25:5.
"If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband's brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her."
And if he refused, the city elders would spit on him.
Evidently _that_ part of the Biblical law was no longer in force.

Hi Curtis Cluxton,
Yes, Bailey Cluxton never made it to Australia. He was transferred from Spike Island to Naas Gaol where he died of tuberculosis.
I have a great deal of information about this family on my website.
