Angus (Forfarshire) / Death of Stewart Smith (born 3/6/1862 Kerriemuir)

Looking for information on the death of the Stewart Smith, who is my great grandfather. Stewart Smith was born 3/6/1862, Kerriemuir, to Stewart Smith and Susan Anderson. He had siblings Jane and Betsy. He married Elizabeth Roy Kettles 23/12/1892 Kinfauns. Stewart and Elizabeth had 4 children (Mary, Susan, Stewart and Elizabeth(my grandmother). Stewart remarried Mary (also written as May) McLean 18/1/1908 Crieff, following Elizabeth Smith's (Née Kettle) early death and they had at least one son, James. Stewart was a gamekeeper and lived at Park Neuk Cottage, Innerpeffray, for some time. I have not been able to find the death of Stewart Smith after much searching. I know he was alive in 1920, as I have found him on the Forfarshire Valuation roll.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you all for the information that keeps coming in. We have certainly learnt some facts which we didn't have and had many others confirmed.

We found previously that Richard was an Etonian, but we don't know exactly when he was there.

We have also previously found that he, Esther and three children went to Canada, with Esther and the children returning alone to the Uk. We have not yet found when Richard returned, or when he and Esther divorced and what he was up to until 1975. We also have not been able to trace Esther and the children after they returned to Oxford.

We are looking into Esther's different surnames. Chempat what leads you to believe that Esther did not remarry?

Thanks again.

Thanks again everyone.

The Richard Arthur Elliott we are looking for definitely had the parents of Arthur Godfrey and Frances Lucy. We have an original birth extract that has his birth as 8.2.23, Bishops Stortford. We have also purchased a copy of his original birth certificate, which confirms the parents as above.

We have just found the information on his sister Ann Hynde, so thank you for that. She was certainly was a student at St Hughes at that time, but may have been home on term break when the census was done. This week have also just found a second sister, Elizabeth, whom we know nothing more about.

Thank you everyone for such quick replies and all the information you have provided. I have been able to establish some of his background and early life information and all that you provided is correct. Only this week we found the name of sibling of his whom we didn't know about (Elizabeth Elliott)

I didn't know Richard, as we were in different countries and I was too young to know what was going on. Now both my parents have passed, so I don't have any living relatives to help me.

I know Richard was an Etonian, had a civil wife, Joyce, which produced a son towards the end of the war. He also later had a legal wife, Esther, which produced 3 children, which I have names for and birth dates for the 2 youngest. This family moved to Canada in 1952-3, with his family returning to the UK without him in 1957.

If anyone is related to Richard, or knows about his life with either family, and is happy to share details, I would be very interested. Also, from 1957 to 1975 (when he married my nan), I have not been able to trace Richard.

Thank you again.
Cheers
Jon

Hi there,
Anyone who has responded with information on Cpt Arthur Godfrey Elliott, are you researching just his military history, or his family history as well? If you are doing his family history, would you have any information or relationship to his son, who was Richard Arthur Elliott, born 8.2.23 Bishops Storford, died 1986 Birmingham. He was married several times, having a number of children. Richard was my step grandfather, who married my nan in Birmingham in 1975.
Many thanks.
Jon
