No luck on any of the streets I have for my Grandmother's generation of Ellisons.

Also, my father says he has pictures of relatives and places (like his Dykes granparents).  When I get my hands on them, where can I send a copy of the photo to for other people to be able to access them?  Is that something people can use?

Also, searching on ancestry.co.uk in the marriage indexes, I'm looking at the search results, and they give the first and last name on the pages, but many of these names on the search results are not the first and last names on the pages.  (Like the search results say Daye to Griffin, and the actual name is Gaye to Griffin).  Is there a way to let them know about the error and get it fixed?  It really returns a bunch of pages that are not relevant.

Small breakthrough on the Jackson line:

My father gave me the birthdate of

John Stanley Jackson as 10-10-04,

I have found a John Stanley Jackson in the FreeBMD Birth Index for Dec 1904,

District: Chorlton, Volume 8c, Page 853.

I need to find out how to get my hands on that record.  We know John Stanley's father's name is Frederick.

I have checked Lancashire BMD, and have a John S Jackson in 1904 (M/49/445)

Subdistrict: Middleton
Registers at: Rochdale

Is this the same place?  I know there is a Rochdale in Manchester...

Help?

Hi again,
You are right re Bury- I am only a few miles from all the places! However Bury would not normally be Manchester whereas the others would.
Here we go:
Free BMD has a birth for Prudence- June quarter 1879.
There are quite a few Dykes families in the area around Audlem and there are two Josephs born around the same time - you find them on the 1881 census.
1881 census has Joseph, Eliza and children aged 7,5,3 and 1 (Prudence), living at Chapel End Audlem.
1891 has them at nearby Buerton village- Joseph 39 yrs        Buerton
Eliza   41   Whitchurch
Florance 9
Jasper 7
Frederick 5
elizabeth 3
George 1  all children born Buerton
The first time I looked I dismissed them as wrong family but I think they must be with a second set of children - all older ones presumably in work.
Although there are quite a few Dykes around- Prudence is the only one and I think that is her. I don't suppose people were two fussy about employing at 12 year old and of course the area is right for her meeting Thomas. What do you think?
Heywood

So you think that Joseph and Eliza had

1. William [1874]
2. Joseph  [1876]
3. John     [1878]
4. Prudence  [1880]

all in Audlem, and the all the kids got jobs and moved out, even youngest of that batch (Pru) moved in with the people in Harpurhey when she was 11 or 12, then Joseph and Eliza moved to Buerton village and had:

5. Florance [1882]
6. Jasper   [1884]
7. Frederick  [1886]
8. Elizabeth  [1888]
9. George [1890]

? Is that right?

Can you give me the 1891 census notations for that?

I think I'm going to have to start by ordering the marriage certificate for Annie and John.  The problem is that I don't know WHERE they were married, all I have is a date and their names.

I'm assuming it's in Lancashire, some section of Manchester. Since this is the first form I'm filling out, any tips on what to put on the request (or if I can request online, which would be the easiest) ?

Hi again,
As regards Prudence Dykes - you will have seen 1881 in Family Search -
RG11  3551 / 39 Page Number 20
parents: Joseph and Eliza - 3 sons, 1 daughter (Prudence) born 1880.

1891   RG 12/ 3249  folio 91 pg 1
Prudence is a domestic servant at 427 Rochdale Road Harpurhey Manchester aged 16 yrs (!)

As you can tell, we have a problem.  If she's born in 1880, as given in the 1881 census, she can't be 16 in the 1891 census.  Could this be a different Pru?

I have remaining questions about the Jacksons in Manchester.

All I have of this (my father's father's) side is my GF name, John Stanley Jackson, who married my GM, Annie Ellison (daughter of Thomas Ellison and Prudence Dykes).

I have John Stanley and Annies' wedding on 3 Sep 1927 in England (I'm assuming a district of Manchester)  Their children were born in 1937 and 1941 (both still living).  The family emigrated to California in the United States in 1946 or 1947.

Annie was born 19 Feb 1903 in Blackley, Manchester.

Any help with the Jackson side of the line would be fantastic!

I have searched 1871 and 1861 censuses-
1871 seems to be ok   21 Watergate Street, Ellesmere
RG 10/2788 Folio 12 pg 18
William Ellison  Lodger 27 yrs Hatter born Manchester - although in 1881 his place of birth states Bury.

Bury is actually a northern part of Manchester, I looked it up online.  It's actually close to Blackley and Harpurhey, My GM was born in Blackley, her sister in Harpurhey, and the rest of the children in Levenshulme (southern Manchester).

I appreciate all the work you're doing, heywood!!  Thanks so much!

Hi Keith, just edited my original post...

I found an exciting link on the Cheshire index....

Joseph Dykes married Elizabeth Glassey in Nantwich, Cheshire some time between 1866 and 1870, so I now have a last name to put with the name on the census!

Elizabeth Glassey, B. ~1852 Whitchurch
                              M. Joseph Dykes (sometime between 1866-1870) Nantwich
              Had four children in Audlem.

Can you see what you've got on Glassey folks?
