Hi my wifes grt grandmother was Eliza (Gray) Martin their son Joseph Gray Martin was her grandfather. I have a bit of information on the family but not a lot. Eliza Gray married William John Martin Sept 1889, I believe they had 8 children in total. Elizas father was called William and he was a farmer. Contact me, maybe we can compare notes.

Thank you for your response, but I was hoping to obtain some information before attempting to apply for his military records as I do not have his service number, battalion or rank.

I am trying to trace my grandfather who was with the South Lancashire Prince of Wales Volunteers but don't know where to start.

My grandfather was Christopher Howard dob 27/04/1905 in Liverpool. The story goes that he lied about his age when he joined up using his given name but had an altercation with an officer and left/dismissed. He joined again using his step fathers surname Miller. I know he had been in India and also Northern Ireland as he met my grandmother whilst based in Northern Ireland. When he married her in 1926 he was no longer in the military. I have been told that he was a sharpshooter and also heavy weight boxing champion of his regiment, but this has not been substantiated. I have a postcard from Kalyan India which I assume is from his old regiment as its dated Dec 1929 addressed to Mr C Miller which would confirm that he used his stepfathers surname, but there are no other details other than its from R.H.D. Any advice would be appreciated.
