I was also very interested in Sophie's episode concerning the Motts because I am also a direct descendant of the unfortunate Samuel. I am currently trying to find out how to get copies of these four letters (and other documents). Have been emailing several people on the programme but one who suggested the National Archives. No luck yet though .... Our side of the family certainly have no knowledge of who held these letters or of their existence.

Did you find Fred, David? I just tried to email him yesterday but it bounced back. He provided me with loads of Mott information up to 2005, but I think was quite elderly.
What relation are you to William Mott 1758 who died of yellow fever in 1795 in New York?
He is my Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather. I'm very interested in all the family but particularly wonder what happened to William Barrowcliffe Mott, their son, who apparently stayed in US when the rest of the children were sent back to England.
