Hello John,

Unfortunately this might not help you. The book is literally an index of what  records you mind find elsewhere i.e. at the Police Museum in Ireland or the UK National Archives. It only lists surnames, first names and the constable's number.

On that basis there are 17 entries for Patrick White and 5 entries for Patrick Whyte.

If you want their constable numbers please let me know.

Regards,

Richard

Hi,

The records for Gloucestershire Police and the various forces that have joined it over the years are held by the Gloucestershire Record Office.

See http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1348

They have a substantial holding of old police documents which you can see listed via the catalogue.

See here http://archives.gloucestershire.gov.uk/DServe/DServe.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Index.tcl

Cumberland / Re: police records cumberland
« on: Monday 13 March 06 00:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Tsumi,

Many force records and papers  for Cumberland are held by the Cumbria Archive Service. See here - http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/archives/

If they do have police personnel records from 1908 be aware that some areas operate a 75 yr closure rule  but in others it can be 100 yrs.

There is also a police museum at force HQ:

Police Headquarters,
Carleton Hall,
Penrith,
Cumbria,
CA10 2AU.

Telephone 01768 891999

It is always worth contacting the museum as sometimes the old records may be split with the museum holding personnel records and ledgers while crime papers and other docs go to the CRO.

Richard

Armed Forces / Re: Police Gazette 1861-1865

Hello Dorothy,

A few years ago someone from the Police History Society attempted to put  together a set of Police Gazettes from 1772 - 1900 as no whole collection was known to exist.  A private firm has micro-filmed those  that were found and made them available for sale to institutions (Currently four sets - total cost £2500).

Unfortunately, to date they have only found about two thirds of the published papers and those missing include the years 1859-1865.

Regards,

Richard

The records for West Yorks Police are held by the West Yorkshire Archive Service at Wakefield. See here for contact details http://www.archives.wyjs.org.uk/index.htm

There is an online searchable catalogue at http://www.dswebhosting.info/WYAS/ which gives a very detailed listing of the records.

Annette,

Here is a picture of Barrells Hall in all its glory - doesn't show the lodge but gives you some idea of the type of house/grounds/wealth involved -

Annette,

The Hall would have been an impressive country residence lived in by someone wealthy. The lodge was likely to have been a house/ cottage in the grounds probably lived in by staff.

Have a look at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/

Type in Ullenhall as search  but click the 'address' button not the 'place' button. This will bring up the post codes etc. Click on the top one - B95. This brings up another list of post codes - the post code you require is the 3rd one down listed as B95 5NQ Barrells Park (The Lodge)

Here is also a site for Warks old maps (lots of them)
