Suffolk / Re: Any WELHAMS???

My husbands mothers side are Suffolk Welhams that go back.  They have farms in Suffolk  there were many cousins on the Welham side.  I don't know much on the family tree but Welham is a fairly common Suffolk name.

My husbands family on his mothers side are Welhams in Suffolk.  They had a farm just yards away from the The Railway Tavern pub in Cotton on the oppersite side of the road.  My mother in law had loads of cousins on the Welham side so it is quite possible that there is a link given the locations being so close and Welham does seem to be a Suffolk name

Just read your post I lived in Wetheringsett for a couple of years in the old almshouses (poorhouse) which were poor workhouses in the 1700s opposite the graveyard.  If the wedding you mention was signed with a mark as they were not educated it is possible they also lived in the poorhouse and were orphaned possibly. It is just a possibility why you can not find parents.

Yes I don't know if i have replied to you before.  My great grandmother was Kezia Hartgrove born1873 daughter of Richard Hartgrove born 1824 from High Roding He had several children my grandmother was also called Kezia born 1894. Richard Hartgrove  had a sister also called Kezia born 1828 who married Robert Banks and moved to Wabaunsee Kanas.  Robert Banks was employed by Henry Ward Beecher to build the Beecher bible and rifle church and was involved in the anti slavery movement.

Reply to cuffie81 Just picked up again on looking up ancesters I have discovered some info on Kezia Hartgroves which has ? born 20/12/1830 of James and Rebecca Hartgroves.  Kezia married Robert Banks and moved to Wabaunsee Kansas USA They had 3 children Julia K 1851 to 1894 William Robert 1852 to 1939 James Henry 1855 to 1952 Robert Banks built the first church in Wabaunsee from limestone called the Beecher Bible and Rifle Church this info came from Wikipedia.  Kezia's brother Richard Hartgroves would be my great great grandfather.  He named his daughter Kezia born 1873 one of 8 children and she also called her daughter Kezia born 1894 only child my grandmother

Hi Mallard45 I have just seen your interest in Hartgroves from High Rodding I would be interested if any connection to Richard Hartgroves born in High Roding 1824 had an incapacitated arm widowed with 8 children 7 lived one Sarah 1864 a tailoress another was Kezia 1873 married to James Gotts they had a daughter also Kezia Gotts 1894 (my grandmother) she married my Grandfather Benjamin Howell.  I have a history of the Gotts side but would like a history of the Hartgroves as I find there is a crest for Hartgroves would be interesting to know where Hartgroves goes back to
