Really interested to see posts about the Lowes family - my ancestor is Nicholas Lowes 1792 - my paternal grandmother and grandfather both descend from him - my grandfather from his daughter Mary 1836 & my grandmother from his son Nicholas 1832.
I have a handwritten family tree that was given to my Dad many years ago by Brian Swan from Whitley Bay - that starts with Nicholas Lowes 1792 at the top. I've no idea who Brian is, where he fits into the tree, or how he tracked down my Dad - anybody on here know him?
I live in Hexham, but have never been to Corsenside - but plan to go next week to see if I can find any family graves.
Janet
Hello, I am descended from Nicholas Lowes 1792 sister, Mary Ann Lowes b 1793 Bellingham. I have DNA matches confirmed from both Nicholas Lowes descendants and their brother Joseph too.
Father was Benjamin Lowes b 1764 Whiteside, Haltwhistle and mother was Elizabeth Heron b 1766 The Hole, Bellingham.
They married 5 Dec 1790 St Cuthbert, Bellingham
Benjamins parents were Robert Lowes and Mary Hutton
Elizabeth Herons parents were Nicholas Heron and Mary Milburn.
There is a helpful will of Nicholas Heron, and you can see he left substantial amount to daughter Elizabeth and son in law Benjamin Lowes.
I visited all these places last year. I am still unsure where at Holystone / Dueshill Benjamin Lowes lived. There is a beautiful grand house there (recently on Rightmove!) with a very intact Bastle House in the grounds. Were they in the big house, or the Bastle House? Either way, it’s an absolutely stunning location and well worth a visit. Any more information about Benjamin Lowes always welcome!
