Hi Mags,

When the weather improves I might have a trip to Dunbar, as it is a nice day out!

Also can confirm Margaret Wilson Stobie died 1972 aged 96 at Dunbar.  If you can afford it Scotland's People has a wealth of detail free lookup, but can get pricey after that:)

Hi,
Andrew Napier Stobie died 1955, Dunbar aged 78.  Details from ScotlandsPeople.  To find more detail will cost £1.50 per record.  Hope this helps.

Hi CC,
Pretty sure it's Margaret Mitchell, but no idea of residence.

Good luck,

Hi Catherineh,

I have only joined RootsChat today and I live in Coldstream. I have looked up the marriage in Old Parish Records on Scotland's People and can confirm the marriage on 4th Jan 1794.  Not much more info really, other than they are both shown "of this Parish" and the comment "irregurlarly".

Quote :- "Bear in mind that 'irregular' marriages, by exchange of promises before witnesses, by betrothal and consummation, or by cohabitation and repute, were forms of marriage recognised by Scots Law, yet may have taken place without any official record of the event."

Hope this helps

Terry
