Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Leominster, St Peter & St Paul - William Beamand
« on: Friday 29 November 24 18:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi CaroleW,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortuantely, that is not the right William. He married in Leominster then settled in Whitechapel, London. The 1851 just says born Shropshire, then he died in 1853. I just want to check there are no clues in the marriage record before I start working through the process of elimination for all Williams born in Shropshire around 1800.

Hi Softly Softly,

Yes, I'm hoping for clues as to which William Beamand/Beaumont from Shropshire he might be.

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Leominster, St Peter & St Paul - William Beamand
« on: Friday 29 November 24 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a transcription showing that William Beamand married Ann Shadwell Blades at Leominster St Peter & St Paul on 2 November 1821. William was not from Herefordshire, so I am wondering if there was any information on adode, marital status and who the witnesses were. If anyone is able to check the marriage register for me, I would be hugely grateful.

« on: Wednesday 25 September 24 12:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for direct line male Howards, living in the UK,  who think they may be descended from the noble Howard family, Dukes of Norfolk, Earls of Arundel, Earls of Carlisle etc. I'm working with a group of America Howards who are offering free Y-DNA testing to suitable candidates to see if they are DNA matches. If you are interested or know of anyone who might be, please message me.

Thanks,
Peggy

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: What does "wortle" mean?
« on: Monday 12 August 24 14:57 BST (UK)  »
I don't have a copy of it. It was just among the usual disbursements of money in an overseers' account. Mr Smith was collecting poor relief for caring for a few poor children/orphans, it is just the addition of the word wortle beyond the usual "paid John Smith for the boy Ellis" that you would usually see among the payments. This is in Norfolk.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. I agree that doesn't make sense in this instance.

Has anyone come across the word wortle before? I found it in an overseer's account book in the 1790s:
paid Mr Smith wortle girl 1s per week
paid Mr Smith wortle with girl Warns 1s per week

Thanks for any help
